Why doesn't the city just hire a person or person's for upkeep on the property. I remember years ago when Mr. Jaramillo worked there and the place always looked nice. I don't know why it looked so good then, but it did. Either way, a memorial park (from corner to corner and not just the entrance) should look nice and comforting to the eye as it shows respect for those interned there.

I had read much about the cemetary not being well cared for, but I found it less dilapidated than the town itself. Generally it seemed in pretty good shape, especially given that it switched status from for to non profit. In the pair of hours I spent in quiet contemplation & retreat there today I did note that some of the (parallel to ground, always for last 50 years or so) stones had accumulated leaves & dirt, but in a remote spot prone to such violent winds it is impossible to keep up with debris like dead leaves, you simply do the best you can. As I did, when each time I encountered such a stone I bent to the ground & wiped away the debris, saying aloud "____" (name on stone) "you deserve to be remembered. Your marker should be visible & legible." I was surprised by the age of some of the markers. The cemetary has only been in operation since 1947, yet I found several stones from the era of the first World War, and at least one from the 1890s. It's no Forest Lawn. And yes, it could do with more care, particularly landscaping/groundkeeping. But given the environment, and the odds they face, 5 people with a cash flow around $150k/annum to attempt to landscape & green a desolate spot of desert AND do the jobs that have traditionally been relegated to the family, keep grave site looking good, for a dearly departed population numbering in the thousands, many of whose families are long departed from the region or life, well, seems to me they're actually doing a lot for many with very little assistance.

Grass is almost dead, weeds taking over and more and more areas just plain dirt. Weeds and crab grass over growing covering headstones. Looks like no one does anything out there. Are we supposed to take our own landscaping tools, fertiliser, and water out there to do the upkeep ourselves?

County is not taking care of our cemetery !! SO SAD! Im ashamed of them for not taking care of this after all of the money that people spend on people to bury their family here.

I was told that they are not responsible for any damage to headstones. They are no longer allowed and only grave markers are used.
Water well is disrepair and County not moving to repair it. Call County Supervisor?
Mead Mortuary would have that information for you
