The lady wouldn’t sell me a small chicken

I purchased a hen to lay eggs and I have owned Hens before that lived long happy lives. However the Hen she sold me was so old it never layed an egg and died I am assuming of old age with in the week of purchase. I am assuming she only sells these chickens to be killed right away 😞

I happen to be driving in the area with my 5 year old and since we have laying hens we wanted to add one more to our flock so we stopped in this farm. I asked the owner which hens were currently laying as I wanted to purchase one . She practically did not want to sell me a hen. She kept saying no I don’t feed them laying food so they don’t lay. I was like ok but if I buy it I would feed it laying food so she would lay eggs . It was a back and forth with her about the food. I then asked if they lay brown eggs since she had eggs for sale on the counter and she was like yeah these are their eggs . So I said ok so you do feed them laying food . No I don’t . Before she assisted me a man was taking 3 large chickens in a box and then when I was leaving another lady all dressed in white was going in . So being from miami and seeing that we all know what she sells her animals for and they aren’t for anyone’s farm they are for their religious practices of animal sacrifices . That’s why she is not interested in selling some of Us her animals if she knows they are for us to enjoy and raise . Horribly kept a ton of hens all cooped up in a small space . Her attitude was unbelievable and I was just asking simple questions and being very courteous to her . Even my 5 year old said why didn’t that lady want us to take a hen, we have money . Ridiculous. She can keep her unhealthy sacrificing animals for her and her santero friends and customers .
