I disputed a $25 cancellation fee and the office manager proceeded to drop us from the practice for questioning them. I was frustrated and confused, explaining I just had a newborn and just needed care for my dog and wanted answers. Sharon called it “verbally combative” (insert eyeroll). We were a new client and hadn't even been seen yet! She said that our family wasn't going to be a "good fit" for them. We are upstanding citizens in Wilmington, and I personally have served as a strategic advisor for multiple national animal-related nonprofits across the country. I am appalled by the behavior of this practice, and you should be too. Perhaps this is the reason they started accepting new clients again... Details on the dispute: We set up Nellie as a new patient. Paws & Claws says that Nellie is due for Bordetella. Since she is a new patient, you will have to add a wellness exam for her to receive the shot. Tuesday, July 19 10:24am: I call to confirm that Nellie needed to receive a Bordetella vaccine. Receptionist stated inaccurately that it had been over a year since Nellie received Bordetella, so yes, she needed her appointment scheduled for 7/26 at 2:30pm. Tuesday, July 26 1:47pm: I contact your office because I went back through Nellie's medical records and she in fact received Bordetella on 1/29/22. Although your receptionist stated on 7/19 that it had been over a year since Nellie received her vaccine, that was inaccurate, and I wanted to make sure you had all of her medical information, as we were new patients. I speak with Brandon who says that she only needs Bordetella once a year, so we don't need to give her the shot until next year. I say, okay, if she doesn’t need a shot, then we should cancel. Brandon then shares that if we cancel the appointment and don't keep a wellness exam today, we will be charged a $25 fee. I dispute paying a fee if we don’t need the vaccine since that is why we scheduled an appointment. I request an email address to send confirmation of the date she received her vaccine in January, as it seems like Paws & Claws does not have that information. 1:52pm: I send a confirmation email along with Nellie’s medical records that per our conversations, Nellie received Bordetella on 1/29/22 and (given Brandon’s instruction that it was an annual vaccine), she is not due for another Bordetella vaccine this year. 2:15pm: Brandon reviews medical records and realizes that Nellie is in fact due for a vaccine, as Wilmington Animal Healthcare only administers a Bordetella vaccine that is good for 6 months. He apologizes for confusion. 2:34pm: I call back to reschedule Nellie for a vaccine. We put her on the calendar for 8/9 at 4:30pm. The female receptionist tells me that we are all set, we just have to pay the cancellation fee for today. I say that Brandon had told me we didn’t need a vaccine, which is why we originally cancelled, and asked why I was paying a fee because of his error. I ask to speak with Brandon who doesn’t remember that he told me it was an annual vaccine. I remind him of the call at 1:47pm and am transferred to you. After much back and forth, you waive the fee and terminate us as a client.

Paws and Claws is a great vet! I brought my cat, Simon, for the first time and he was very comfortable there. I was very pleased with my experience and I will definitely be going back with all my pets.

No, they do not. You will have to look farther away such as Raleigh. No one local does ear cropping.
