My father-in-law, an air force veteran, was given a shower everyday and they helped him stand in the shower daily. He had leukemia and didn't want to be resuscitated. He spent a week there after he became too much to care for him at home. My poor mother in law didn't know what to do with him so she had a hospital bed rented for about a week and tried to feed him a little but we could tell he was dying. Became extremely weak and we just knew that he was not able to be taken care of at home. We decided hospice care as his doctor gave him a week to live. Well, he lasted a week and we were always allowed to visit him. On what turned out to be his final day he surprised us by sitting up in bed. His wife and us kids were in the room and he looked at all six of us (before covid) and remembered all our names and made a complement to all of us. Then just as quickly, laid back down and closed his eyes. We were told we could all go home for dinner and told to come back after as he was looking pretty good. Well, as soon as we got home my phone rang and it was a Hospice staffer. She said he had just passed away. He died the way he wanted. By himself. As soon as we got the call we went back to hospice and he was lying down practically smiling but he was gone. His blue eyes still half open. I closed his eyelids and after saying our goodbyes we walked out. The next time we saw him he was peacefully lying in his casket. He had a military burial with rifles shooting blanks into the sky. We left shortly after. We felt releaved that he went peacefully. The staff at the Hospice was fantastic and helpful.

Very kind and supportive staff. Worked well with the nursing home where my mother in law lived so her passing was peaceful and as she requested.
