Nothing overly exciting here but it was a nice, simple stop for our small group of people that was easy to get to, had great parking, no fee, and we were able to walk through out our own pace. If you're in the mood for a little bit of cultural education, I would recommend it as a break from the road and a break from electronics devices.

Always love to visit old archeological ruins and try to imagine how life was when these places were in their prime. Shoofly Village is very easy to get to. Not a major destination for people, but that was also the appeal in visiting here. Plenty of parking and the walk down the trails are easy for pretty much everybody. Bring your imagination and let it run wild. If you like old native American ruins, you will probably enjoy the visit.

If you visit it this site during the off-season like I did, chances are you're gonna be alone. This site is managed by the USFS, and a slightly run-down and overgrown paved path leads you around. Interpretive signs mark spots of interest and are well designed with great interpretation, but are very simple. The Ruins themselves are all mostly rubble with a couple reconstructed low walls here and there. This is probably a site only for the hardcore Native American site hunters and enthusiasts, in terms of preservation it doesn't hold a candle to places like Tuzigoot or Montezuma's Castle. The draw is it's isolation, scenery, and the interpretation surrounding it.

Hi, my name is Lori knight and I am a resident of Gila County, in Beaver Valley Estates. We would like to get married on the plateau as you first enter Shoofly. 30 guests no chairs. Approx. 20 min wedding. Is this allowed?

You would want to check with the ranger station in Payson on hwy 260 since that area is part of this district.

How far do you have to walk to the ruins from where you park your car?

From the parking area you immediately enter the ruins on a small paved path. Follow the signs and its a fairly compact area.
