Don’t recommend having a child here for one it’s about them needing the space rather then your health they will keep pushing you to discharge whether your good or not my baby had to go to icu they quickly moved me from a room for mother and baby due to lack of space I felt pushed I was not comfortable at all at this place rather rushed stay away definitely not a place you want to be

I had my son here in 2020. Since I got inside COVID test awful, next they couldn't insert IV correctly (never ever has happened to me), epidural took ages to receive it, uncomfortable bed, freezing room, people getting inside out all the time, the doctor just wanted me to push fast and I had a 2nd degree tear, checkout complicated, just a few to mention

My wife's water broke at 6:30 am, and our baby was breech. We arrived at Duke at 8:00 am because we were coming from Raleigh, and ran into rush hour traffic. Our daughter was born at 8:30 am, butt first. The doctors and nurses who delivered her were absolutely AMAZING (especially Dr Jennifer Gilbert, MD) and I will forever be grateful to them for the miracle they pulled off that morning. Honestly, every doctor that we encountered there was wonderful. They took the time to explain to us in detail how our situation would be handled, and went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure that all of our needs were met, and that our child given the best care a parent could ask for. That being said, the nursing staff was another story. Many of them came across as rude, and acted as though they knew more than the doctors. We went to a fire station that specializes in child car seat safety before taking our daughter home, and had our car seat installed by them. When it came time for her to go home, one nurse told us that it was done completely wrong, and changed it so that my daughter almost could not breathe. So long story short, the doctors here are some of the best in the country, whom I would highly recommend. As for the nursing staff, not so much.

Insurance should cover it. However, if you're uninsured it can range from 5,000$-11,000$
They must have a lot of mothers in labor to not have put them in a room
