If you're at all like me and don't fancy paying $200-300 to play a round of golf in Hilton Head, then by all means head straight to Old South where you'll find a very reasonably priced and beautifully designed golf course. The staff at Old South are polite and accommodating, and you'll come away from your round feeling like you've really had a worthwhile experience. The course is very well maintained and the layout is memorable - especially the imaginative course routing through the wetlands. One hole has both an island fairway and an island green. Really a lot of fun. Couldn't recommend it more highly.

I will make this a regular stop on my golf course tour of the SC/Coastal GA area. The course design is great, although there are a few "goofy golf" holes where you need to play target golf (hit to 180-220 depending on tees, then make your approach to the green) but in all, it was a fun course to play that penalized you when you were bad and rewarded you when you were good. All of the par 3's were a fair distance for an amateur golfer. About half of the par 5's were "gettable" for a big hitter, otherwise play it as a 3 shot hole and there should be no issue. The greens were just aerated, but outside of some sand on your ball they played ok. Some tee boxes are all sand/barely any grass, but from what I understood from my playing partner who was familiar with the area that is to be expected this time of year. The entire staff was friendly and welcoming and I was treated with dignity and respect from the time I pulled into the parking lot until when I left for home.
