Waste of my time. Not buying anything. Too old and apparently selling the business. Did nothing but poor mouth!!

Very friendly staff. They offer a variety of items on the higher end of the scale.

A seemingly charming antique store that is ruined by the fact they charge fraudulent sales taxes on some of their wares, and attempt to prey on the uninformed. Very good selection of antiques and an ostensibly friendly staff. However, when I tried to purchase a Morgan Silver Dollar, they informed me they charged a tax on the sale of U.S. Currency. "Effective July 1, 1999, the sale of coins and currency that are U.S. legal tender is no longer taxable. The sale of any other coin and any other currency with a price of more than $500, and the sale of gold, silver, and platinum bullion with a price of more than $500, is exempt." They were extremely friendly to talk to and very knowledgeable, but when I tried to explain to them that the sale of U.S. currency is not subject to tax, they argued that it was subject to tax because the coin was a collectable. Their argument is a non sequitur, the coin is still U.S. legal tender, regardless. They refused to look at the legal tax exemption, as written, when I offered to pull it up on my phone. This occurred after I had already had a very excellent conversation with their numismatic expert, where I agreed to purchase the coin at a certain price. The staff remained very polite and calm throughout my interaction, regardless of this disagreement. When I objected to paying a tax on a tax exempt item, they simply stated I do not have to buy the coin. I took their suggestion and left empty-handed. In spite of anything positive I can say about this store, the seller acted so deliberately obtuse by insisting on charging me tax for U.S currency, refusing to look at irrefutable evidence of U.S currency being tax exempt, and then offering up a non sequitur excuse of the item being a "collectable" to justify their nonsensical tax of less than $2.00. I felt so slighted, and insulted, by their complete disregard of my value as a first time customer. It soured any desire, I had, to engage in repeat business with them. Edit in response to the response from the business owner: After negotiating, and a very nice conversation regarding coins, I agreed to pay the price that was agreed upon, which was $30. Your condescending response is disappointing. I explained, very clearly, why I was displeased in my review, that being that you charged a sales tax on a tax exempt item. I don't care if the price that WE AGREED on was $60, it does not change the fact that U.S. currency is tax exempt. I don't know how to clarify the reason for my dissatisfaction, any further. I don't care that the final price cost me an additional dollar, despite my penchant for haggling. I care that you hid that additional charge behind a fraudulent sales tax. The person at the register, despite his ostensibly, congenial demeanor, was just as obtuse as your reply is now. I am in utter bewilderment that you took the time to read my review, which outlines exactly why I was unhappy with your business, and instead of striving for any amicable resolution, you decide to speculate additional reasons as to why I'd be upset. Your reply demonstrates the same obtuseness that was shown to me in your store.
