Came here in 2019. The time I spent at Cumberland and my subsequent stay at stillwaters were essential to my recover. I credit this place with saving my life and giving me a life worth living.

Cumberland Heights completely turned my life around. I will be 5 years sober August 8th and without my stay at Cumberland Heights that would not be the case. The facilities are amazing and the staff is incredible. I honestly wish I could go stay again for a week just because it was such an amazing experience! Plus the BEST food!!

I first learned about Cumberland Heights when I was eight years old. Both of my parents were addicts, and my mom had gone to treatment. Up to that point I didn’t think that it could or would get better. Our lives were chaotic and I was the oldest child of two addicts. I do know that I always had a sense of understanding that addiction was a disease and that my parents were sick. I never doubted that they loved me, I just knew they couldn’t be parents. My grandmother took me to visit my Mom at Cumberland Heights. I distinctly remember at eight years old feeling hope for the first time. At this point I realized that there was hope to hang on to and that my parents could get better. I think that it gave me the strength to endure some more things that I would go through during the rest of my childhood. When I was 16 I returned to Cumberland Heights to participate in the family program. My mom had relapsed again. This time I learned the effects that addiction has on the entire family and there were things that I needed to do to heal. Did you know that a child of an alcoholic is almost guaranteed to become an alcoholic/addict, marry one, or find some other compulsive behavior to fulfill our abandonment issues, like becoming a work alcoholic, unless certain interventions to find healing are applied, such as therapy, ACA, Alanon, and/or trauma treatment? For me it was all of the above needed. If you read the 14 traits or Laundry List of an Adult Child of an Alcoholic, I met almost every single one of them. The family program at Cumberland Heights is top notch. I did the family program again when I was about 25 years old when my ex-husband went to treatment. I learned that I could get better even if the alcoholic/addict that I loved didn’t. In February of 2008 Jay Crosson, the CEO of Cumberland Heights, gave me a chance and hired me to work at Cumberland Heights. I was 21 years old. I was inspired by Jay. He was an alumni of CH, he started working at CH in 1993 at an entry level position, worked his way up to CFO and became the CEO in 2014. I quickly found that CH was not just any place to work. The staff there became my family. We all shared a deep passion, no matter what our position was, to uphold the mission of CH, which is to transform lives, giving hope and healing to those who are affected by addiction. My Father lost his battle to the disease of addiction in 2015. While he didn’t make it, I've seen countless patients who have come through CH transform their lives and come back as alumni or even staff. My favorite part about working there was the ability to see the difference in a patient between admission and discharge. You could see a person come in looking and feeling so defeated. The staff would be there to welcome them home, provide hope to their family, and then somewhere along the course of their stay see the light come on in their eyes again. At discharge you would see a completely different person filled with hope and armed with tools they needed to succeed and continue on with their continuing care plan. I left Cumberland Heights in February of 2020 to further my career, but one thing I can definitely state is that CH fulfills its mission and beyond. They have an accreditation by The Joint Commission and were one of the first to be accredited with the ASAM accreditation given by CARF. They also hold the BlueDistinction for quality care by BCBS and are considered an Institute of Quality Care by Aetna. I can assure you that all of those distinctions took great work and dedication by the CH staff and their Leadership team. I am forever grateful for the part Cumberland Heights has had in my life. The campus is beautiful. The food is amazing. The staff is incredible. If you have a loved one or you yourself are in need of treatment, I can assure you that you are all in good hands with Cumberland Heights.
