West Penn Trail. The photos are from 2020. This trail is beautiful. It offers climbs, even walking trails, and the river. West Penn Railroad is a 15-mile trail. Traces of the old canal, early railroad tunnels and beautiful cut-stone bridges all can be seen. The trail goes across Conemaugh River Lake, over Bow Ridge, past the dam & along the Conemaugh River into Saltsburg. Sections of the Conemaugh River Lake Section of the Trail occasionally are submerged under high backwaters of the Conemaugh Dam. We’ve been there to see this, it was unbelievable.

Great rail trail. The by pass around the tunnel is steep so keep that in mine and the center portion is mostly single track but in my opinion it is the best part of the trial. You will have to go on the internet and check the dams water level to see if it is high the bridge at the tunnel bypass will be under water.

Not crowded and always clean. A great place to get some exercise but a little too secluded to bring the whole family

I don't recall how much is paved. It is a smooth ez trail. Not muddy, rocks or anything like that.
