About a month ago, i had got my secondary vehicle up and running to take to work daily due to the rising diesel prices. On my way, a check engine light had appeared and upon arrival to work i saw i had a trail of oil following the vehicle. After taking a glance, it was hard to determine where it was leaking from so i decided to have it towed to In Town after using the prior mechanic, Ed, for many years. I had asked simply for a diagnosis of the oil issue…. Was called a week later and was told the check engine light was due to a shorted out O2 sensor from the oil leaking…. That’s all….. an O2 sensor. I asked, well what about the oil…. the absolute ONLY reason it was towed….. the reason that VERY O2 sensor was shorted out. They told me, “well we would have to rinse the bottom of the vehicle off to get a better look and it would suit you better to run a dye test to determine where the leak is coming from”. #1, shouldn’t that be included in the diagnosis since it was the ONLY reason the vehicle was there? #2, the vehicle won’t retain oil, it’s leaking very heavily, you’re going to run a motor with no oil in it for a dye test? To simply plug a scanner in and tell me the O2 sensor is beat and charge me $300 for it is absolutely absurd and unacceptable. The lack on common sense is beyond me and is literally beyond any competent repair shop. I do not recommend whatsoever.

Mileage is just one indicator of a vehicle condition. Theoretically, a vehicle that has covered more miles has more wear and tear, but a car with 60,000 miles on the odometer can easily be in worse shape than one with 120,000 miles. Cars and trucks like to be driven.
All in all, the best age to buy a used car is around the 5-year mark, as this minimizes depreciation and maximises reliability for the price you'll pay, meaning you're less likely to have any problems or need to pay any more money for later on which is a common problem with really cheap or much older vehicles.
A 10-year-old car or a vehicle with over 200,000 miles is already considered an old car. The lifespan of a car is usually considered to be nine years.
One or more worn, damaged, or fouled sparkplugs are present. Catalytic converter is clogged, missing, or ineffective * Malfunctioning oxygen sensor. Internal engine parts may be malfunctioning or damaged.
To determine whether a car has reasonable mileage, you can simply multiply 12,000 by its age. That means good mileage for a car that's 5 years old is 60,000. Significantly more or fewer miles could indicate a problem or trouble in the future.

Hi, yes we do. All of our specifics can be found here https://www.intownautocare.net/contactus
Yes. We are proud to offer car inspection in Moorestown.
Our office is located at 309 Mill Street, Moorestown, NJ 08057.
Always replace burned-out fuses with ones of the same amperage (printed on the fuse) and note that if a fuse continues to "blow," you should have the circuit checked professionally by one of our technicians for defects.
To help ensure dependable, trouble-free performance, replace your car's fuel filter approximately every 30,000 miles or as recommended in your vehicle's owner's manual.
You should get your oil changed every 3000 miles or as recommended in your vehicle's owner's manual.
For maximum fuel economy and peak engine performance, your spark plugs should be replaced every 30 months or 30,000 miles, unless your vehicle is equipped with 100,000-mile platinum tipped spark plugs.
There are many sensors and computerized components that manage your vehicle's engine performance and emissions. When one of these fails, the "check engine" light is illuminated. Although your car may seem to run fine, it is important to have the issue addressed to prevent long-term problems.
Synthetic motor oils can be a good choice for high output, turbocharged or supercharged engines. Or for vehicles that are used for towing (especially during hot weather), and vehicles that operate in extremely cold or hot climates. Although more expensive than mineral-based oils, synthetic motor oils can improve fuel economy and provide longer intervals between changes.
Battery cables and terminals should be cleaned and inspected periodically to make sure they provide a good electrical connection.
Milky brown engine oil is an indication of coolant in the oil. This can be caused by a blown head gasket (or other gasket), a failed transmission cooler, or cracked casings. This condition is very serious and needs to be checked by a professional technician immediately.
This is a very serious problem – if your car overheats for too long, you can damage your engine. As soon as possible, find a safe place to pull off the road and shut the engine off! Do not attempt to check the fluid level in the radiator; the hot fluid can cause severe burns. The best thing to do is have your car towed to InTown Auto Care.
YES. The failure of a timing belt in many cars can result in major engine damage. The cost of repairing an engine with a broken timing belt is much greater than the cost of a timing belt replacement.
Your tires should be rotated every other oil change, or every 6000 miles. Neglecting to rotate tires is a major cause of premature tire wear.
The additive in the oil starts to break down as soon as it heats up to high temperatures. The engine in your vehicle will reach over 200 degrees almost every time you drive it. History has proven that the 3,000 mile mark is a good interval to have your engine oil replaced. You never want to just drain your engine oil out and put new oil in without changing the oil filter. The oil filter will hold about a quart of oil. If you do not change the oil filter when changing the engine oil in your vehicle you are combining your clean engine oil with deteriorated engine oil and this will lessen the effectiveness of the new engine oil you just put in your vehicle.
If you can see cracks in your belts, it is time to have them replaced. We recommend replacing your belts and hoses at least every three to four years. If your hoses look swollen or soft that could be an indicator that they need to be replaced. However, hoses can deteriorate on the inside and if this happens there is no visual evidence that the hose needs to be changed.
Depending on the vehicle a timing belt needs to be replaced between 60,000 and 120,000 miles.
Although there are many things that can cause tire damage, improper inflation is the main problem we see. Always keep a tire pressure gauge in your vehicle and frequently check the pressure of all tires.
You may see your gas mileage decrease. Your vehicle may start running rough. If your check engine light comes on that could also be an indicator that your vehicle needs a tune up. The owner’s manual that came with your vehicle may suggest a tune up at a certain mileage.
Preventative Maintenance entails the routine maintenance services that help to keep your vehicle running efficiently and eliminating future problems that may leave you stranded.
To ensure that we always have clear communication with our customers, we’ll always notify you before any repairs are done.
As a general policy, all payment is due after service has been performed. So, you never have to worry about paying for a repair before it is done.

The short answer to this question is that it really depends on the scope of the issue we are trying to resolve. There are a number of different variables that can affect the overall price of transmission repairs, but with a professional inspection from one of our certified New Jersey mechanics, we can give you a thorough and accurate assessment of what the issue actually is, and give you an accurate price quote for your service before we actually begin work.
For most vehicles, it is recommended that you have your transmission fluid completely changed every 3 years, or 36,000 miles. If your vehicle is a bit older, or you frequently use your vehicle to haul heavy loads or towing, you might require this particular service a bit more frequently.
If you have a transmission leak in your car or truck, we always recommend staying off of the road with your vehicle. Even the smallest transmission leaks can have a noticeable effect on the overall performance of your car, and it is best to have the leak fixed in as short a timeframe as possible.
While most vehicle owners instantly wince when they hear there is an issue with their car's transmission, many are relieved to find out that a transmission problem doesn't necessarily mean a great deal of money is required to solve it. In fact, there are a surprising number of issues that can be solved without the need to remove your transmission at all. In each case, our team of professional mechanics will perform a thorough evaluation to let you know what the best option for your car is going to be.
The type of filter that your vehicle needs depends on the type of oil that it needs. Conventional oil needs to be changed about every 3,000 miles and only requires a conventional filter. Synthetic oil, on the other hand, lasts much longer. It can last anywhere between 6,000 and 12,000 miles.
There a few different types of oil. The best way to check to see what oil your vehicle uses is to check the owner's manual. This will tell you whether your vehicle uses synthetic or conventional oil. Conventional oil wears out sooner and needs to be changed more frequently than synthetic oil so be sure to know the distinction.
Oil is the lubricant that keeps your vehicle running. If you choose not to change your oil then it will completely break down and leave a sludge in your vehicle's engine. This will wear your engine over time and cause it to break down much sooner.
Your coolant is what helps keep your vehicle from overheating. It, just like your vehicle's oil, can break down and cause sludge. This wears down your vehicle and could cause it to overheat. This is not good. A coolant flush allows you to get rid of all of that broken down coolant and replace it with clean coolant. It also allows you to clean out a bit of that broken down coolant, preventing it from causing further damage to your engine
Yes. Winter tires provide more traction in slippery conditions which can help keep you on the road and away from the side of the road. They also help you get up slippery hills. That means while others are left on the side of the road, you will be cruising to your destination with complete peace of mind.
Timing belts are rubber-toothed belts that drive the camshaft on overhead camshaft engines (most common type manufactured today). They need to be replaced as a maintenance item (refer to owner’s manual for mileage details). Timing chains can be found on both overhead cam engines and non-overhead cam engines; they are not a maintenance item and may go 200,000 miles or more before needing to be replaced.
This depends on the type of spark plugs that are in your car. Older cars (15-20 years old) are more likely to have standard plugs and they last 12,000-15,000 miles, newer models up to the year 2000 are platinum tipped and will last 30,000 miles. Some 2000 and newer have iridium tipped plugs and will go 90,000 to 100,000 miles.
You should check the anti-freeze and the oil at least every other gas fill-up on newer cars and every fill-up on older high-mileage cars.
You should always set the tire pressure by the tire manufacturer’s pressure specs. They can be found on the side of the tire. To realize better mileage, tire wear, and handling, run the pressure at the maximum pressure. You need to remember car makers do not make tires. The tire manufacturers are the experts and should be your source for pressure information. Car makers are more concerned with the best ride not the best mileage, wear, or handling. Additionally, the pressure car makers recommend is for the tires that they install at the factory.
The most common cause is excessive warping of the brake rotor. This is caused by improper tightening of the wheels or wheel hubs that are not properly cleaned when the rotors are installed after a brake job or tire rotation, or it could be a bad hub. The problem does not show up right away, it can take a few hundred miles of driving, or getting the brakes hot enough for the vibration to show up. To solve this problem, the mechanic must first determine if the rotors are warped, the hubs are dirty, or if it a bad hub. The rotors can be machined if there is enough material on the rotor to machine it properly without going below minimum thickness required for a safe rotor, or the rotor must be replaced. If the hub is the problem it must be cleaned properly, the rotor reinstalled, and the smoothness and straightness (run out) rechecked.
For maximum fuel economy and peak engine performance, your spark plugs should be replaced every 30 months or 30,000 miles, unless your vehicle is equipped with 100,000-mile platinum tipped spark plugs.

Rotating your tires every 3rd oil change or 9,000 miles (based on tire application) helps ensure the life of the tire and its warranty. Tip: Have your tires rotated about every 5,000 miles? Check tire pressures once a month; let the tires cool down first. Don't forget your spare and be sure your jack is in good condition.
