How reflective is engineer grade reflective sheeting tape?

INCOM Manufacturing | Sep 18, 2020

Engineer grade reflective sheeting tape is at the lower end of the reflectivity scale. Under the ASTM D-4956 it would be rated as a type 1 level of reflectivity (white approx: 90 CPL). It is still a good level of reflectivity for most non-highway type applications and is our best-selling grade due to the lower price point. This product needs the source light to be fairly directly in front of the tape (ie perpindicular) for best results. The engineer grade reflective is rated for 7-years outdoors. If you need better "off-axis" reflectivity, look at the higher levels of reflective that we be better for that.

How long will anti-slip non-skid grit tape last?

INCOM Manufacturing | Sep 18, 2020
INCOM Manufacturing | Sep 18, 2020

The tape itself is made from outdoor durable materials that are weather-resistant. To ensure proper adhesive the surface should be smooth, clean and free of contamination prior to application, with a temperature above 50F (10C). Firm force should be used to help in the adhesion bonding. The anti-slip properties of the grit will wear off with use and time. This will vary greatly based on volume and type of traffic. We recommend that the anti-slip properties of the tape be inspected regularly to determine if they are still providing an adequete level of friction. We are happy to supply test samples for you to determine the suitability of this product in your intended application.

What is the difference in anti-slip safety grit tape mineral abrasives that you offer?

INCOM Manufacturing | Sep 18, 2020
INCOM Manufacturing | Sep 18, 2020

INCOM offers 4 different grades of mineral abrasive on their anti-slip grit tapes ranging from 24-grit, 36-grit, 46-grit, and 60-grit. This numbering system is like sandpaper, the higher the number the finer the grit, therefore less abrasive traction offered. We would typically recommend the 60-grit for most typical applications, while the 24-grit would be focused on heavy-duty highly dirty applications such as mining and construction.

What level of reflective tape should I choose?

INCOM Manufacturing | Sep 18, 2020
INCOM Manufacturing | Sep 18, 2020

INCOM offers 3 levels of reflectivity in our tape products. The standard is engineer grade reflective, this product offers a good level of reflectivity and durability and is commonly used in a wide variety of applications. This type of reflective would be typically used in residential street name signs as a reference point. engineer grade reflective works best when the light source is directly in front of it. The next level up is the high-intensity Superbrite reflective tape. The Superbrite is about 4 times as reflective as the standard engineer grade and would offer a better reflective choice when the light comes from an angle. This product is made from a micro-prism technology and would be commonly seen on the green highway overhead signs. Our final level of reflectivity is the fluorescent reflective tape. This product is about 8 times more reflective than the standard engineer grade and also offers a highly colorful surface that is readily seen in the day as well.
