Came in about 2 am Saturday morning in great pain. Night shift got right to work, full work up, blood, x-rays ct scan. At 8 am Dr Johnson said the day Dr would be right in to go over tests with me (Dr Chen) it's now 11:50 no Dr, no food, no water and no answers. So as much as I like the VA MEDICAL, their emergency room socks

I’ve had to visit the ER at Mather 4 times. One visit was fine BUT the other 3 were the worst experiences you could imagine. Two times by ambulance and within a couple of hours I was released with double pneumonia with the Doctor yelling at me and accusing me of trying to affect everyone in the ER! Yep that really did happen. The next day I’m back, again by ambulance again and I was admitted to the hospital by a different Doctor. My blood pressure was 70/30, oxygen was high 70’s, double pneumonia and I couldn’t breath, all the same symptoms I had the day before. I ended up spending 16 days in COVID isolation, lost 25 lbs and nearly died after contracting Sepsis and MERSA while in the hospital. The latest ER adventure was last week. I was in the ER waiting area for 7 hours before I was called back to a room. They had taken blood, chest X-ray, standard vitals and 2 COVID tests. It seemed that all they cared about was if I had COVID or not. A Doctor finally came in my room (never got a name nor was it on my discharge paperwork). He said, “good news all your tests were negative”! I go so why am I sick? He says…”I don’t know but everything we tested for was negative so I’m cutting you loose”! Yep that’s what he said word for word!! And with no medicine, he suggested I eat Yogurt and take an OTC med to feel better. When I got home my temp was 101 and was sick for another week. It’s interesting how they brag about a 7 minute wait to see a provider ONCE YOU GET INTO A ROOM! Such BS how they ignore waiting room wait times. If I could give them NO STARS I would. When I take my dog to the Vet ER I wait 15-30 minutes. The ER at Mather is understaffed, mismanaged and is below the standard level of care a human should expect to receive. Bottom line the worst experiences ever!!

I have been utilizing VA Medical Hospitals since the 70's and truth be told Mather ER, Staff and Service has been EXCELLENT. Went in this morning and I was well taken care of from start to finish. Outstanding service most especially from RN, Alex and ER Dr. Chang. They truly know the meaning of DEDICATION and SERVICE to the well being of Veterans. The Mather VA Management and Hospital Administrator should be proud to have employees and staff that are compassionate and dedicated.
