As we were about to walk inside, the security guard came out the front door and rudely accused my daughter of disrespecting the flag in front of the building. She wasn't even talking about the flag at all!! I don't appreciate him accusing my child of doing something that she didn't do!! I think he must be racist, and figured she was up to no good simply because of the color of her skin!

Drove 45 minutes so we could get my wife a new social security card after we got married. But the office was "temporarily closed" and the number they left to call was no help

I tried calling the office to see if I needed to make an appointment but it seemed like an impossible task to get someone to answer. So, I decided to just go in. Found out is walk ins only. The officer at the entrance was very friendly. The wait was short but when I got to the window I was told one of my papers was not the right one. The person helping was very nice and I asked if I could rush home and bring it and he said of course even though I was cutting it pretty short before their closing time on a Friday. I got back to the SS office about 20 mins. before closing time and waited for a few minutes again and then got a different SS person to help. She was also very nice and the process was fast and painless.

It differs from office to office here in Hutchinson Kansas no appointment needed you walk in take a number and wait your turn as a matter of fact it's almost impossible to get the Social Security Administration on the phone
Basically prove ur identity & citizenship. Picture ID such as state issue drivers license or non driver issue ID, or passport. That's the things u need if a U. S. Born citizen. If non-citizen u need immigration status & work eligibility.
It helps if u do make a appointment in advance !
Go visit the nearest Social Security Office with current photo ID ! That's all that is required now

You go up with proof of identity like birth certificate and ID and possibly also proof of residents and you should be able to get your Social Security card
