My mother was in ManorCare in West Palm Beach and the entire experience was filled with all the things that nursing home/rehab nightmares are made of, but it was real life~My mother, a woman who was independent prior to the accident that caused her to be there, laid in bed begging to go to the bathroom, unable to get up herself, with no one coming in for hours. Being in NC, I tried calling the front desk many times to get her help, but no one answers the phones after 6:00 pm. They tell you when you are upset because there’s no one to reach in an emergency that the receptionist at the front door leaves at 6:00 pm and the calls are routed to the nurses, but absolutely no one answered. All night!, every night! I know this because I was on the phone trying to reach a nurse or anyone to help, while my mom, who never had to wear a diaper in her life, cried for hours in pain, laying in a wet diaper. Finally, afraid and unable to reach anyone to help, I got on a plane earlier than planned, left work and sat at my mom’s bedside all day to be sure that she was getting the help that she needed. I can’t imagine what happens to those with no advocate because I observed my diabetic mother receiving meals made up of starch and sugar, meal after meal (in one day she was served for two meals in a row only pasta, potato, bread and sugary juices for lunch and dinner with no protein at all) The room was barely cleaned and there was everything from pats of butter to dirty tissues under my mom’s bed for days, until I actually asked the woman cleaning if I could have her broom and I swept under the bed. And more often than not, my mother couldn’t reach her buzzer for help w because it was on the floor with the response being “they didn’t have any clips to attach it to her bed.” I begged to see the administrator or someone to help and finally got a response on the phone after I reported the horrible, dangerous, disturbing lack of care that I witnessed for my mom, her roomate and the folks yelling and begging for help with no one coming~I need to add that Lana, the social worker was among the rudest, most condescending, unhelpful and uncaring people I’ve ever had the misfortune of having no choice, but to deal with or meet, let alone have managing my mother’s care in any level. BTW, if you mention the “rude mean woman”, everyone that works at ManorCare knows that’s it’s Lana and agrees that she’s awful (So why is she working with people that need help and guidance?????) I could write a book on the mistreatment that my mother experienced at ManorCare, but this should paint the picture… My mother asked to be taken to the bathroom and she was taken in and left with a diaper hanging off her leg that she eventually was able to kick over to floor near the garbage pail~When the aide returned, she asked her if she wanted a new diaper or if she could use the one in the floor!!!!????? If you care at all about someone, do anything possible to assure they are not placed in the danger or robbed of their dignity by allowing them to spend even a moment in this hell hole AKA ManorCare West Palm Beach. In a place that seemed to void of compassion or quality health care, I would like add thanks to the nurses Mary and Natalie, as they managed to shine their lights of compassion, kindness and care in such a dark awful place and truly tried to help my mom.

Whoever is thinking about working here or sending their loved one here please don’t. I used to work for this facility but decided to place my two weeks in after being rudely talked to by Paul Robinson in hr. Now I’m still having issues after leaving this facility, I picked up my last check and placed it in my bank (opened it and signed in front of my banker). A week passed by and I have an alert on my account stating the check was duplicated. I called hr immediately stating the check didn’t go through and rudely was told by Paul that manorcare doesn’t duplicate checks, saying I was the one at fault. Well I have two people to verify me opening the check in front of them. Paul didn’t want to speak to me or fix this issue so I had to call my bank then merge the calls and talk to someone else in the facility since he wouldn’t return my calls or emails. The bank told me they’ll need a letter to clear the fees due to the duplication which was hr’s fault and yet I’m still being ignored and refused help. Please get better management because this is ridiculous. If they don’t care about their employees I’ll be really worried about the care to your loved ones.

My father wet the bed and called for a nurse. 1 hour no i came. 2 hours my brother called and was told it would be taken care of. 3 1/2 hours later my brother went to see my dad and they bed was still soaked. When he inquired about it, they laid a sheet over the urine soaked sheets and asked him if he was ready to go to bed. This is not the way I feel is the best way to take care of a patient.
