Ben, the fella with the beard in window C was very helpful, and answered all.my questions. Now, i know what i can, and cant do involving signing up for social security... You don't you can call several times a day amd get a different answer everytime. Good luck I've been trying for 9 mos.
You have to set up an account online at social security.gov. I had to wait an hour to get help at the office because it would not let me access the page. Make sure you bring your social security card whenever you go to office!
What to do when accepting a job overseas for several years. How to continue with my Social Security status.
You don't! On hold 5-10 times per day for weeks. When lucky enough to actually speak with someone you get a different answer every time.
I have to do the same thing. I'm going to bring my divorce papers. All of my identification. I would think they have the rest.
Well said!!!!!
Call
What do I need to apply?
Bring in a copy of your marriage certificate and your current state ID
Hey Karen if you can make it up there, it'll probably be better to take to someone in person
Yes as long as you get a number to get called up
I would call in them in the morning and ask that. You want to be sure when it comes to money and obligations
Yes, you can walk in w/o an appointment. But, you have to wear a mask. I made an appointment. Just go in, go to the keosk i guess you call it. It asks you a few questions, and gives you a number. Then you have to wait ouside, and the security guy will let you know when to enter. Best time to get there would be around 8:30 a.m.
Ssa.gov but I did not have an appointment it's not required I could not figure out how to make an appointment because my phone was not cooperating so I took a risk and just went up there it was very organized so it was not the end of the world it was maybe a total of an hour and a half from the time I enter to the time I left but they only allow one person at a time and no more than eight total inside where the seats are
Best way to make an appointment is online
You have to call them
I had a lawyer
You need a certified birth certificate (the ones with the stamp). Once you get that...go to a SS security office. They'll probably ask you if you know the number. If you don't, the birth certificate should be proof enough. They will also ask for picture ID.
No. Just walk in
No sure ,depend your past wages
I don't think so.
Call 800 numbet
No, but be ready to have your life in a folder. I've gone three times to replace my three kids cards and everytime they wanted something new in paperwork. I'm still waiting for my back pay since July. Yes, something as simple as adding and multiplying has become harder than sending someone to the moon. I was first told within two weeks, then it became 30 days, then 60 days now they tell my attorney by the end of November. That would be about 120 days. That's mine, God willing my kids will probably take another six months. Sorry, but the Social Security Adminstration doesnt care one bit about customer service. About to be evicted, but they want my family and I to be in the street before they do anything quickly. Very ashamed at this government agency and all its employees. The VA and SSA are in a race to see who could be the worst in customer service! To me it's a tie!
