I decided not to donate after learning that some of the staff had not been vaccinated against COVID 19. I know that volunteers have to be vaccinated but apparently those directly involved in drawing blood do not.

You'd think that they would make it more easy to donate. The hours that they have make it so so difficult to donate if you have a regular schedule like a normal person throughout the week it's almost impossible, since they don't take people during the weekends unless it's a specific donation type. If this wasn't frustrating already, it definitely is that the past five times I've tried to donate within the last few weeks, they turn me away if I'm in the door even a second after the time they stop taking people. A couple of the times I was told that they stopped taking people 5 minutes after and that there is somewhat of a grace period of 5 minutes. Nope. Again I was turned down 1 minute late when they stop taking people. I get that they can't always accommodate outside of certain time perimeters (which they have yet to define since it depends on how they're feeling that day) but the very least they could have done was tell the potential donator that in addition to these "perimeters" that they apparently "don't take walk ins this year" because today when I finally get off work and rush across town - in time - they decide to FINALLY tell me that. It seems like they just really don't want my blood. I asked her why no one told me the last 5 walk ins and she said "it depends on the day". I've been rushing across town driving 30 minutes after work all these times and even if they have to be strict about the hours, maybe a cheerful attitude especially from one of the rude secretary ladies would help somewhat. Plus, they don't have a phone line to their blood donation center because you always get sent to the main national line and they can't get a hold of the center either. Plus the website was broken for a long time and wouldn't allow you to book an appointment. It's all kind of a mess. Maybe better hours? And clear perimeters? That would be a start.

I have been coming here for three years. Always make an appt and still have to wait over 35 min. Staff playing games on the computer and two to three people just talking. Last time I come. To bad redcross.

I don't do it for the money. It's to expensive already.
They have very limited walk in ability you should set up an appointment.
No antibiotics within 72 hours of the donation...
Call the local office and they can advise you further.
The American Red Cross does not compensate for platelet/plasma donation But there are platelet /plasma centers that compensate because their plasma is only used for cosmetics and testing
In cookies, juice, sometimes even crackers! One time, they gave me a little box of band-aids and some lifesavers. I hate lifesavers, but it was a nice gesture.
