I have been involved with the OIA or PIA for over 20 years. I have also served other associations. I have often compared those experiences and have found my experience with OIA to be more relevant. Many associations exist for lobbying purposes only and the board is basically a back slapping exercise. My involvement with OIA saw vigorous debate on issues impacting the membership and the industry. Some of those discussions were tough but healthy debate and the right amount of friction is necessary to maintain a healthy association. The staff at the OIA and the board have constantly kept this at the forefront of their existence. Have fun, support each other, but above all, serve the membership. Address their concerns and needs and all other aspects of running the association will fall in line. Jeff and his staff have kept the perspective and transitioning from the previous leadership while fashioning their own style. Well done.
