My Dr. I was so blessed when God led me to Helton Family Medecal. The staff is also amazing

I made an appointment with Doctor Helton's Office on May 23, 2022. However, the appointment was at a different location, not at the usual location on Highland, Ave. I am not sure if the person I met with was an actual Doctor or an assistant. I explained that I was having some minor chest pain and was given an EKG. She returned a short time later with the EKG printout in hand. I was told that the EKG indicated that I had a possible Septal Infarct V-3 - CK PA-C. Blockages with some damage to heart muscle. I was told by this person to go to Saint Thomas of Rutherford as soon as possible. Upon arrival at the Hospital Emergency room I was giving another EKG. The ER Doctor stated that my EKG looked normal. However, due to concern that the primary physician had I was admitted to the hospital for further testing to include a stress test. All of the test including the stress test was normal. After spending three days in the hospital, I was informed that nothing was wrong with my heart. The diagnosis was indigestion. My hospital bill alone was 21,000 not including bills from other providers. I missed three days of work, scared my family half to death. All of this occurred due to the fact that the person at the Doctors Officer didn't or couldn't properly read an EKG.

This review doesn't necessarily reflect my experiences with the doctor but with the office as a whole. We moved here last year and have been trying to find a GP for my self and my husband. (If you live in the area have attempted to find a GP accepting new patients- you know this can be difficult as most anyone with a decent rating isn't accepting new patients). My husband started going here first as he had several prescriptions to fill and he started seeing Dr. Housden. He was happy with the care he was receiving so when I had a SEVERE (I ended up in the ER for anaphylaxis) allergic reaction- I set up a follow up with Dr. Housden's at Helton Family Medicine. The communication issues started before my appointment. I was having a secondary less severe but no less frustrating reaction after my ER trip and I called to see if it was possible to get in any sooner than 2 weeks out (which was the earliest I could get in when I set the appointment). No one answers the phone- and voicemails when unreturned. I waited it out because I couldn't get in anywhere else and didn't need another $300 trip to the ER. Dr. Housden was very kind, and understanding (though I was not asked if the medical student was ok to be in the room also which I found odd). We set up blood work to determine what had caused the reaction and I went over to the attached lab to have my blood drawn. He said not to expect results back be fore the middle of the next week so I waited. Thursday of the following week- I did reach out just to see where we were at and if anything had been returned yet and (one of the rare cases) someone did answer but didn't have any clue what was going on in my chart. I was told to call back the next day and hopefully someone could assist me. I did call back the next day and got bounced to a random voicemail when the person who answered couldn't help me. I left a voicemail for the doctor's nurse that never was returned (I left the message mid morning). Monday I called again to try and get some answers and was bounced around to random voicemail again. I had one message returned but no one left me a voicemail so I couldn't tell you who called me back about what. As of this morning I have left 3 voicemails after I received a missed call (again no voicemail was left) and I have yet to receive a call back from anyone about anything. I just want to know what's going on and get some answers and no one seems able to tell me anything- even just a call back saying you don't have the results yet would be better than not knowing. I am so incredibly frustrated at this point I don't know what to do- so here I am leaving a bad review in hopes that maybe someone might call me back. I'm really disappointed with the level of care that's being shown- if they are this busy and unable to call people back- maybe they should also not be accepting new patients.

I have been seen by both Drs and a couple of the PAs and have never felt rushed, and I always feel as though they honestly care about my health needs. They have been great with scheduling and getting me seen when needed. Dr. Helton is one of the kindest people I have met. I also feel as though Meridith goes above and beyond to make me feel heard and cared for. I have been getting my entire family to switch to this practice and they are also pleased with them all.
