Doctors are taught that it's a waste of time and resources to try to save the elderly. There are many articles on this subject. A loved one of mine was admitted into the hospital and their care was totally botched. They ended up with more ailments they came in with and they died. I've encountered multiple people that have had similar experiences. Forget about the elderly getting great overnight care too when you aren't there. There seems to be no great hospital option for the elderly in northeast TN. Maybe not anywhere in driving range. Best thing you can do if you live in this area and are over 50 is to try to decrease the odds you end up in Ballad Health Care. Quit unhealthy behavior. Don't expect that you can play games like using tobacco and they'll try to help you. Because they won't! Make sure you have a personal doctor you can trust. Based upon what I've seen, I suspect there must be many thousands of elderly that have fallen victim to the Ballad system.

I have been struggling with sharing my experience since it happened. Back in the spring/summer 2021 i took my oldest son to Holston Valley Emergency room for chest pains. Since the ER waiting room was packed (covid) and my son was in a treatment room, i would go sit in my car. As i'm walking out i notice a coroners van blocking my vehicle and a police officer surrounding the vehicle beside my car. Not wanting to be disrespectful i looked away but i was curious and glanced over...a poor woman had passed away in the back seat of her car. I noticed a purse in the front seat. I am not sure how long she had been in the car or if she had visited the emergency department and decided it was too crowded to seek treatment..i do not know. It is sad that someone had to pass away while in backseat of car in the parking lot of emergency room. I often think of her and can't imagine the loss her family must feel. I hope Ballad reached out to the family expressing their condolences

My mom was in the ICU here and she did have good care while she was there but the day she died, the nurses at the nurses desk was out there laughing, being loud and obnoxious. This was right outside of my mothers room. I understand this is their everyday and they do need to be able to laugh at work… but with that being said..working in the ICU, they need to have respect, realize people are loosing their loved ones and making difficult decisions. My 57 year old mom was dying and all I could hear was people laughing.. it was just not okay. One of the nurses did finally go intervene and tell the others to be quiet. I applaud this individual. Do better people.

I only give this 4 cause of the wait in the emergency room. I understand Covid etc but I had to wait for 8 hrs and found out I had a ruptured cyst on ovary and inflamed appendix. So I had to have surgery. Everything else the nurses and recovery nurse was awesome. Sweet and caring. And always checked in when I needed. I was out in a day. The food was good if I felt like eating any. Like I said I’d give a five if it wasn’t for that long long wait.
