This does not exist in the summer is only a winter event. There is no cost. It is for observation and beauty alone. And takes a lot of manpower to complete.

Fabulous experience. Want to make this every year!!
Its the last day of the winter carnival. Then (I found out and hour ago) that they are trying to find volunteers to come fill in the gaps for the warm spell they had. If they dont get them and it is determined to be unsafe they will be taking it down with in this week. 2-10-19
Early in the day is best, mid week it's good. Small parking lot but pleasant walking area if you park a bit away. Bundle up as it's popular but worth it. Stairs to climb a tower this year
Is the castle still up and allowing visitation over the weekend? We have out of state company arriving this afternoon and hope to visit there on Saturday.
The web site says: We don't prevent people from bringing their dogs, but we don't recommend it. Every year, we see sad pups holding up frozen paws, limping, shivering and scared of the crowds and loud noises of carnival. It's best to leave them at home in a warm, safe place.
They it also say there are nearby dog boarding places.
They light the Ice Palace on opening night right before the fireworks display. It remains lit after the close of the carnival and generally right up to a day or two before the tear it down. The only time the lights turn off is if they have to close it for an extended time due to weather, and often it remains lit even if visitors can't walk through it.
