Simply put, I believe there are only three elements of a cemetery that warrant rating -- 1) professionalism at internment; 2) general maintenance; and 3) helping visitors find their loved ones. There may be more, but this is my list. I don't know the logistics from the various times my family has counted on Hope for providing burials, but the fact that we have many plots all together dating back to the 1800's makes me believe they have it figured out. Overall the cemetery has a solemn but welcoming look. This has been around a LONG time, so it's no surprise that there are some weathered and even broken markers -- and admittedly I'm pretty sure the families are responsible for that type of upkeep. But the grounds -- even in the early part of a frigid stretch in January -- looked very well-maintained to me. I haven't been to the cemetery in over twenty years, but my 550-mile driving route gave me the opportunity to make a long-overdue stop to visit and pay respects to my father, grandparents, and a host of other relatives -- some of whom I recall fondly and others I've only heard of. But where to start? I walked around in to overcast and cold morning, unsure where to start. Fortunately the contact phone number for the caretaker was prominently visible on a sign there, and I called -- relatively early on a Sunday morning. Not only were the two wonderful people I spoke with as friendly and helpful as can be, but they were so knowledgeable that as soon as I mentioned the family name they didn't need to look it up -- they just told me where to go. When visiting the final resting place for family and spending some peaceful time recollecting tbe family love and connections, it sure was nice to get such quick, personal, and friendly help from the folks who run Hope Cemetery. Catholic Cemetery . Mostly I see get buried there are Catholic. Very nice well kept Cemetery .
