This is the best place in Santa Monica to get the top of the line, specialty laser procedures. Warm and friendly environment encourages a feeling of self improvement while there, versus the urge to change something about yourself which is typical of many cosmetic clinics. The ‘A Team’ will leave you happy and considering something new every time!

Anita and Angela are the best. They will debate the best possible procedures and products to make sure you feel natural, and that you remain natural even during the transition between appointments. Location is super beautiful but that’s an afterthought after the experience with them and lasting on my face. Will keep coming here always!!

I was recently traveling for work and staying in LA when I came across this place on my walk to the beach. Alexa took care of me when I was there and it was SUCH a nice experience after not having in person skin or spa treatments for so much of the pandemic. I had the fire and ice treatment which left me feeling super refreshed. Alexa set me up with the perfect regime to help take care of my lovely mask acne which has reeked havoc since the pandemic, AND it’s working!!! Looking forward to my next trip to LA and seeing what magic Alexa can work on me again!!

I came here for a facial with Alexa after getting referred through their sister company Brambila Salon - hands down best facial I’ve ever had! She’s incredibly thorough and knowledgeable about all the products and treatments and skin care in general. I left the spa absolutely glowing and my face feels super fresh and clean! Can’t wait to go back for my next facial!

Questions & Answers

Should you tip after a visit to a medical spa for services such as laser hair removal?

Marcy Taylor | Feb 15, 2022
Ocean Avenue Aesthetics | Feb 15, 2022

It's quite common for many medical spas to function as a one-stop shop for beauty services and cosmetic treatments. For services that are traditionally performed by a day spa or salon, you may need to tip the standard 18-20% if you are using your local medical spa for such a service.

What degree do you need to work at a medical spa?

Marcy Taylor | Feb 15, 2022
Ocean Avenue Aesthetics | Feb 15, 2022

The first step is to attend an Esthetician School. You should be able to finish this project within six months if you are willing to spend around 600 hours on it. You will then need to acquire a medical esthetician’s license, which you will need to get after this. The state board exam will be required in order to obtain this license. A written and practical exam is included in the exam, and both of them must be passed.

How much do you tip at a medical spa?

Marcy Taylor | Feb 15, 2022
Ocean Avenue Aesthetics | Feb 15, 2022

Ocean Avenue Aesthetics does not require tips unless you feel obliged to do so. However, in the cosmetics and beauty industry, tipping standards are subjective. It is standard tipping etiquette to leave at least 20%.

What is a facial spa treatment?

Marcy Taylor | Feb 15, 2022
Ocean Avenue Aesthetics | Feb 15, 2022

A facial improves the appearance of the skin by cleansing pores, exfoliating dead skin cells, hydrating and moisturizing the skin, and treating common skin concerns. Spa-goers often request facial treatments as one of their favorite treatments. With a facial, you can boost your complexion immediately, as well as your skin's health and longevity. All facial treatments include deep cleansing and exfoliation, but the products and tools used in the facials can vary depending on the type and the spa venue that has been chosen. This is a spa treatment that can be enjoyed alone or as part of an overnight spa break or pamper day.

What are the advantages of a medical spa?

Marcy Taylor | Feb 15, 2022
Ocean Avenue Aesthetics | Feb 15, 2022

There are a number of advantages that a medical spa like Ocean Avenue Aesthetics can offer its clients. Due to the fact that the treatment is overseen by a physician, the treatments provided by the company are highly skilled and safe. A medical spa can ensure that patients receive high level results from a highly trained and experienced staff. The environment at the spa can also be expected to be clean and welcoming for patients.

How does a medical spa differ from a day spa?

Marcy Taylor | Feb 15, 2022
Ocean Avenue Aesthetics | Feb 15, 2022

At a Day Spa, people who have been trained in fields such as therapeutic massage and cosmetology provide the treatments. Generally, a Med Spa operates under the supervision of a highly trained physician who is an expert at both Medical Aesthetics and Day Spas. In a Med Spa, all medical-grade treatments should be provided by licensed physicians. Despite this, some office locations still perform treatments through PAs or Nurse Practitioners under the supervision of a Medical Director who may or may not be the actual owner of the business.

What is a Medical Spa?

Ocean Avenue Aesthetics | Feb 15, 2022

Ocean Avenue Aesthetics is a medical spa. This medical spa is much more than a traditional spa experience. Imagine the peace of a spa, combined with the expertise of a licensed doctor and the help of advanced technology. Cosmetic medical services essentially cover what the term encompasses. A medical spa can provide a variety of benefits. Patients receive highly skilled and safe treatments because it is overseen by a physician. An experienced medical spa staff can deliver high-quality results to patients. The environment at the spa can also be welcoming and clean. There are also some traditional spa amenities, including facials.

Hi Marcy! Our most popular services are the Ultimate Duo and Botox.

Why are Botox and filler injections so expensive?

Noah Johnson | Apr 16, 2022
Ocean Avenue Aesthetics | Apr 16, 2022

In the case of Botox injections, the providers are responsible for setting their own prices, which are usually based on the cost of the injections and their business costs. That's how they make their money from Botox injections. For example, a business with a higher overhead, or that is located in California, which is an expensive state, will necessarily have to charge more for treatments in order to make a profit and remain in business. There is always an impact on the cost of Botox treatment on the experience of your Botox treatment provider. An individual who has more years of experience in injecting Botox can charge a higher price for the treatment. Aside from Botox injections, any special treatments that are included as part of the package will incur an additional cost.

Do you need to be a doctor to perform non-surgical cosmetic treatments?

Noah Johnson | Apr 16, 2022
Ocean Avenue Aesthetics | Apr 16, 2022

Non-surgical cosmetic procedures are being performed by many people in the US who are not doctors. The majority of these people are aestheticians. A state-approved aesthetics program is required for aestheticians before they can obtain their licenses. Students may study manual and machine facials, skin analysis, chemical treatments, waxing, skin conditions, skin diseases, and makeup application as well as other areas associated with the industry. Students usually have the option of attending community colleges, cosmetology schools, or other vocational schools to obtain their diplomas. Technical and practical instruction typically requires about 600 hours for most students; however, some states only need 350 hours and others demand as much as 1500 hours. Every state has its own requirements for cosmetology licensing, so prospective students should contact their state cosmetology boards to make sure the program they are considering meets the necessary requirements.

What is the difference between dermal fillers and botox?

Noah Johnson | Apr 16, 2022
Ocean Avenue Aesthetics | Apr 16, 2022

Among the big differences between Botox and dermal fillers, the biggest one is that Botox works on wrinkles on the surface of your skin, whereas dermal fillers work on volume loss in your face. Dermal fillers and Botox both have their own specific applications, and they also complement each other quite well. In fact, if you are concerned with both types of wrinkles, treatment of both Botox and dermal fillers can be performed in just one appointment.

How much does it cost for 20 units of Botox?

Noah Johnson | Apr 16, 2022
Ocean Avenue Aesthetics | Apr 16, 2022

It is important to remember that the price of Botox is per unit. Botox is usually priced between $10 and $15 per unit. You may be looking at a total cost of between $200 and $300 for the treatment of horizontal forehead lines if you receive as many as 20 units in your forehead.

Can you reverse plastic surgery?

Noah Johnson | Apr 16, 2022
Ocean Avenue Aesthetics | Apr 16, 2022

Prior to undergoing any surgical procedure, patients need to be aware of all the risks and the reality of what could happen. Reversing the effects of some plastic surgery procedures can be painful, costly, or impossible. Some procedures can be reversible or only produce temporary results. It should be noted that more invasive procedures such as nose jobs, ear reshaping, and even brow, eyelid, and facelifts are not necessarily reversible, but they can be redone if you are not satisfied with the results. There is no guarantee that you will see immediate results from these surgeries as they require cutting and anesthesia. You can adjust things with your doctor's help, but you will not be able to simply "go back" to how you looked in the past. Before you decide to have a cosmetic surgery procedure, it is important that you first consult with professionals so that you know how the procedure will work.

The medical spa I go to has a nurse practitioner on-site, but no doctor. Is this legal? Is this safe?

Noah Johnson | Mar 17, 2022
Ocean Avenue Aesthetics | Mar 17, 2022

Generally, yes, that is perfectly fine regardless of your state. Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners are called "mid-level providers". As long as they are properly trained and experienced, they can do many of the same things as doctors. Patients can see them, they can make diagnoses, they can develop treatment plans, and they can prescribe medication. Doctors overseeing NPs and PAs generally don't have to be on-site in most states, although they may be required to document. It should not be a problem to have an NP or PA staffed at the spa as long as they are properly trained and experienced. It would be wise to ask the NP about his/her experience, his/her overseeing physician, and all the supporting documentation of their practice if you have any questions. You should be able to get all of this information very easily, if it's not available, it may be a red flag that needs your attention.

An aesthetician wants to perform my Botox injection. Should I let her?

Noah Johnson | Mar 17, 2022
Ocean Avenue Aesthetics | Mar 17, 2022

In no way. In this day and age, botox is considered a medical procedure, so before you begin your Botox treatment, you should have an in-person consultation with either a physician, a nurse practitioner, or a physician assistant, before starting the procedure. Although each state has its own laws regarding Botox and injectables, Ocean Avenue Aesthetics recommends that only a registered nurse or practitioner qualified to perform botox or injectables should carry out such procedures.

Before having a medical spa treatment, do I need to make an appointment with my doctor first? How about laser treatments? What about Botox?

Noah Johnson | Mar 17, 2022
Ocean Avenue Aesthetics | Mar 17, 2022

Most of the procedures that are performed in medical spas are of a medical nature. Since most states require in-person examinations before your first treatment, Ocean Avenue Aesthetics recommends an exam by a member of the medical spa staff prior to your first treatment.

What should I be looking for in a medical spa to determine if it is safe and compliant?

Noah Johnson | Mar 17, 2022
Ocean Avenue Aesthetics | Mar 17, 2022

The following tips can help you determine whether your medical spa complies with state and federal laws. You should ask if you can see a doctor. There are quite a few treatments you can get from medical spas that are considered medical treatments, such as laser treatments, Botox, and fillers. As a result, it is recommended that you consult with a doctor, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant prior to beginning treatment. Before you get treated at a medical spa that complies with these standards, you will be scheduled for a consultation to ensure that you are a suitable candidate and that a proper treatment plan is in place. It's a red flag if you walk into a new medical spa and are offered treatments without seeing a doctor (or nurse practitioner or physician assistant). If a medical spa does not have proper physician coverage, they will make up excuses for why you do not need to see a physician, but these excuses are simply untrue ... and dangerous.

What is the importance of a doctor-operated medical spa?

Noah Johnson | Mar 17, 2022
Ocean Avenue Aesthetics | Mar 17, 2022

As a matter of fact, there are some bogus spas on the Internet that claim to provide medical treatments but have been found to infuse blood products, fluids, and electrolytes for dubious reasons. If you have a licensed professional on staff, you will be able to assess the risks and benefits of each intervention they make. Some medical procedures require a physician to be present at all times. In the past, there have been some practices that have been sued when surgery was carried out without the presence of a physician, and fraudulent billing was related.
