This place has some fantastic historical artifacts and is a well laid out park with a fantastic view of Humboldt Bay. I gave it a 3 simply because most of the museum buildings are now inaccessible and the drought has caused the picnic area to be neglected. There are a couple of cool old train engines there, but they are only visible through glass. Some of the antique logging equipment is also neat, and on a windy day this park would be great for kite flying, but it's really designed for a short stay and maybe a picnic.

Beautiful park to go and see and learn about the history of Eureka.

Mainly an outdoor attraction. It is a better display on the history of logging in N. California than of the fort.

Doesn't take long to see everything 5 minutes tops

Parking was free. The tour is a short 1/2 mi walk with signs. The forestry loop is way cooler than the Fort Tour. Heads up: the mosquitoes were bad when we went in August. Overall worth the time!
The restroom combo is taped to the front District office door. You need the combo to open the restroom door so yes it is open
