Cleaner than other shelters I've been to. Friendly staff that are very clear about the attitudes of the various animals.

This is a place that runs on volunteers. They bring in animals from kill shelters and work tirelessly to place them in good and loving homes. They provide vet services to the animals they rescue and clearly have a profound love and passion for what they do. If you're looking to get a pet, consider rescuing one from here.

At this time, due to Covid restrictions the shelter is closed other than by appointment. You can get an appointment by submitting an application to adopt on the FOHA website.
Hi Sam, All dogs that we have, along with as much of their personalities that we know, are kept updated on our site. That's the best source for information.
Hi Carolyn, Our website is kept up to date and is the best source for any dogs we have available.
I'm afraid they work only with cats and dogs and don't do any intake at all at the shelter.
Those under 18 one can volunteer to be a cat snuggler as long as they are accompanied by someone 18 when they come.
As noted, visit their website and see who's looking for a good home. They note how most dogs are other other animals and people. If you see one you that catches your eye you can visit and meet with them.
The number varies regularly as animals come in, find fosters, or get adopted. You can find all their available animals on their website.
Hello David - We are unable to temporarily house cats. All of the cats that come to FOHA are considered our permanent guests until we find their forever homes. We have a very vigorous process to vet cats and dogs before we accept them to ensure that we can care for them until the end of their natural lives unless they are adopted. Good luck with your search. Sarah Rudy, President FOHA.
If not there is a rescue in Fredericksburg who is grateful for open bags
