I've been watching the progress of the Nagourney Cancer Institute for years. Fortunately, I've never had to call them but I know people who have and what the Institute has done for them has been nothing short of amazing. I'm no scientist, but from what I've learned is that they've developed a process to test your cancer cells against many possible chemo treatments IN THE LAB, so they can define the exact treatment that will best treat you and your cancer. This sounds like the obviously most direct way to treat cancer. Why doesn't everyone do this? Try it in the lab and see what works best THEN use the best treatment. From what I've seen, most doctors just prescribe the drugs that usually work for most people, but last I looked, everyone is pretty different so what works for me may not work for you. If you're facing a cancer diagnosis, I honestly couldn't imagine a better path than directly to Dr. Nagourney. I hope I never have to take that path, but if I do, that's what I'm going to do.

I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Nagourney and his team at The Nagourney Cancer Institute. They provide an invaluable service, using lab tests to determine exactly what drug or drug combinations will be the most effective treatment. The NCI empowers patients by giving them the information they need and can help save precious time. Dr. Nagourney’s dedication and years of experience can make a crucial difference for you or someone you love.

I first learned of Dr. Nagourney and his work about 17 years ago when I attended a talk he did at Long Beach Memorial Hospital. I was impressed and overwhelmed by his demeanor and his obvious dedication to his research and his patients. What struck me the most in what he was saying was that his assay testing could identify what treatments would and would not work on a patient’s particular cancer; thus avoiding the need for overtreatment. My brother has recently passed after almost two years of continual treatment that included multiple rounds of chemotherapy; stem cell transplant; radiation on his brain, spine, and pelvis and gamma knife radiation. After hearing Dr. Nagourney speak, I was so sorry that we had not known of him while my brother was in treatment. A big concern for my brother was his quality of life. He did not want to live at any cost, he was willing to go through treatment, but wanted to make sure that they treatment did not leave him incapacitated. At that time, the treatment approach seemed to be more in line with “blasting the cancer” and doctors were just starting to talk about targeted therapy. I saw the impact that the excessive treatment had on my brother, and had he survived, he surely would have had secondary impacts or possible further cancer from the treatment. So as Dr Nagourney shared his research and results from the assay testing and targeted therapy, it immediately resonated with me. While I don’t know that Dr. Nagourney could have saved my brother, I feel confident that as a patient of Dr. Nagourney my brother would have had an improved quality of life and would have greatly appreciated being respected and heard by his doctor. Over the years I have referred a number of patients to Dr. Nagourney and know that he is my first call when a friend or family member is dealing with a potential cancer diagnosis.
