I give this review after visiting for their 8 pm public skate session with the main objective of finding an ice rink that isn't used by many people and allows for practicing without the crowds. I am a beginner ice skater. Facility: It is definitely a new one that was built within the recent 5 years after the City of Irvine acquired the land from the military for what was previously the Marine Corps Air Station El Toro. 5/5 rating due to building amenities and layout. Public Skate Session: I went on 9/3/2022 for their 8 pm public skate session. The ice did get scraped and resurfaced before the public skate session. This time on a Saturday at 8pm is fine for family outings. However, I do not recommend the 8 PM Saturday sessions if you are trying to find a time where you want less people. The condition of resurfaced ice during the public ski session with more than 60 people on the ice degrades to deep grooves after ~70 minutes. I prefer finding empty rinks as I'm not under pressure of bumping into people or having to do sudden moves as a beginning skier. I'll have to give an update on this review after going to their public ski session during the weekday and during the morning and evening times to get a full comparison. My final rating is 4/5 because this is a modern ice rink as expected which I can give a recommendation for. I don't give 5/5 because it would have meant a unique feature not available at other ice rinks when compared in the Los Angeles, Orange County region.

Spent the afternoon with my grandchildren at the ice rinks. Granddaughter wanted to watch the freestyle while grandson wanted to watch the hockey games. We did both. I had a great time.
