Excellent ambience and service. Food is good but not great. Their best is definitely meatballs and sauce.

The stuffed mushrooms were delicious. The meatballs were good. The Gnocchi Ragu was tasty and two thumbs up from my dining partner. The veal parmesan was dry, tough, not something I would order again and a bit of a disappointment. The Fusilli Carbonara was ok, but I'll pass next time. The mini cannolis were disappointing. The shell was soft, like it was refrigerated for several days, too many chocolate bites, but the cream was good. Cannolis should be prepped and stuffed daily so the shell stays crisp. Unfortunately they were not. The portion sizes are generous, but will keep hunting for a 5 star Italian meal.

Great place for classic Italian dining. Probably the best meatballs I’ve ever had. I also recommend the cheesecake.

If you had the right connections allowing the rare pleasure to visit the original Rao's in Spanish Harlem in New York City you most likely were a celebrity yourself. I haven't had the opportunity to dine at the LA location, from the menu it looks quite authentic. If you're going to experience Raos for the first time and can happen to know someone who has dined at the Original Rao's NYC, (PRE DUD "DE-BLASIO" DAYS) then invite them along to give it a proper NY Style Thumbs up or Down.
Call Rao's.
