If you don’t let the general public in (one day a week with limited hours doesn’t count) you shouldn’t have tax exempt status.

Beautiful cemetery with beautiful views of the city. Very peaceful. For some reason we were told visits aren’t allowed on Fridays.

On June 6th 2022, The security guard was rude and threaten to call the cops on me and it was very unnecessary because I was visiting a someone who died and i was trying to visit but it seems like they don't care about the dead people's families.

As a passionate funeral director and cemeterian, I was pleasantly surprised by this Oakland gem. Beautifully kept grounds, chapels, and mausoleums. It's nice to see the community have access to this gorgeous space for respectful recreational purposes in addition to honoring loved ones.

No, it does not belong to the people of Oakland. The cemetery is private property and is owned by the plot owners who have paid for their family members to be interred there.
Maybe for Memorial day, but im really not sure, i can say they dont during normal days.
Yes, u can pretty much drive through the entire place just know that some of the older edge areas drives can be rough and can have a lot of pet walking pedestrians to watch out for.
Go to the office with the name of the decedent and a member of their staff will take care of you.

There is a public toilet at the entrance :)
Look it up on a website called Life's of the Dead it's run by a guy who specializes in historical figures buried in this very.
Alot of the oldest burials are found in one area up by the row of millionaires. They offer a guided tour which not only walks you thru the cemetery but also thru the moseliums which are huge. Henry J. Kaiser is in the big one
They close the gates before it gets dark. The security patrol drives around first to make sure everyone is out.
Yes, but you are only allowed to walk them on the pavement and roads, not on the grass or gravesites. Source: signs on-site
