Took granddaughters here for hibachi for one’s birthday tonight. Food was mediocre—little taste and the oil for the grill tasted old. I would rate the food and service a 3. However, on a bill of nearly $114 (before tax), I left a $26 tip. I had already tipped the chef $10 at the end of his cooking. (You do the math!) I always tip 20% and usually on pretax. The hostess brought everything back to say I didn’t leave enough—she wanted 20% on the bottom line. “We have to pay the chef”. My explanations all of a sudden did not seem to be understood. I have never been insulted like this in any restaurant…in most states in this country and on three continents! We are from out of town, but visit the Cape Ann area often because we have family here. Other members of our family visit here for the same reason. And all of us spend a lot of money in area restaurants. Suffice it to say, no more of my food dollars, or that of my extended family and hopefully many of our local friends, will be going to the Mikado.

I came here on a friday night with my boyfriend and his mother. We sat and everything seemed fine. drinks were ok. Service was terrible. The lady serving the drinks was literally brutal. Like absolutely rushing us, took FOREVER not to mention when i wanted a second drink with my parter, we ended up saying nevermind we dont even want it. She was so rude and the guy who was helping her as well was brutal. Rude all around. I dont know if they dont know common manners and service but this is absolutely not the place for good service like not to be rude but they literally suck. Also at the end we were paying and the guy was STANDING AT OUR FACE WITH HIS HAND OUT FOR A TIP??? I did not tip my usual 20% only the hibachi cook who did the work. This place is disgusting including the bathroom. Hate it here don’t recommend
