The "living historian" was very rude to my dog and me. I wanted to get a ticket to see the old fort but was talked out of it by the woman working in the gift shop because I would only be there for 30 minutes before they closed. An absolute must see. The staff in the fort was extremely knowledgeable and welcoming, they had answers to all of my questions. The blacksmith was as equally knowledgeable and showed us many of the ways things were made, even going out of his way to show us how nails were made after we expressed interest in them, and he went into depth about different techniques used. They have a great group with a lot of knowledge and it is absolutely worth the price of admission at $8, if not double that.

No fee for the grounds but there is a fee for a tour inside the actual fort and the Job Prickett house....somewhere around $8.
10 a.m. and on Sept 9th there will be a soap making demonstration throughout the day. You might also want to visit Valley Falls State Park located about 7 miles south of exit 137 off I-79, near Fairmont. There are a couple lovely water falls there and the remains of an old grist mill. Fishing is usually good too!
I've never seen anyone using one there. There's no signs saying you can't. And when the forts closed, who's going to know? Better to ask forgiveness then permission. Lol
