First time there. We didn't know it's more of a sandwich shop than a bakery. They did sell some desserts and bread and that's what we wanted. After waiting in line 15 minutes for everyone to buy their sandwiches we passed the sandwich line to go to the register to get some bakery items. Then we were told we cut and had to go back to the end of the line. You keep your bakery, I'll keep my money. Rudest register person I've met in years. It was 4:40pm and all she wanted to do was go home. From what I saw it's not even a real bakery, everything on the shelves comes out of a box is cans, jars, or in plastic. We never made it to the bread or desserts counter. I never say anything bad about anyone but he the help is pretty obnoxious.

My husband and I were vacationing in the area and just happened to pass by this great bakery! We had a fresh loaf of semolina bread and huge lobster tail pastries! WOW! They were fantastic! We have had the ones from Buddy on Cake Boss and these blow his away! Way more filling and a lot less money! The bread was so fresh, hard to decide which loaves to buy! I wish this place was by our house in Ohio, I would be a very frequent customer! If you're in the area I highly recommend stopping by!

This is the BEST ITALIAN BAKERY I have ever had the pleasure to enjoy! Staff is very friendly and helpful. They have delicious and decadent pastries and SUCCULENT Sandwiches. You GOTTA GO!!!!

A Gloucester staple and the best sandwich shop anywhere. You can get more or less any regular sub or sandwich you could elsewhere, but the real gems are those unique to Virgilio's. My all-time favorite is the St. Joseph sandwich, which I could eat forever, but the rest of the menu is not to be overlooked, especially the North Ender with balsamic vinegar or the Porky Joe for you pulled pork fans. For you pastry fans, Virgilio's has a ton to choose from - more than I have had the chance to try. If you want a guaranteed satisfying after-sandwich treat, grab a cannoli. Gloucester has a lot to choose from, but you should absolutely not pass up the chance to grab something from Virgilio's when you have the chance.

Only 7 people in the store at a time, you can put your order in and have it brought out outside to you. You're required to wear a mask in the store also.
