About 2 months ago my boyfriend's sister started fostering a kitten from this shelter that had been found stray. We met her, absolutely fell in love, and applied for her almost immediately and were approved for adoption and assured that she was reserved for us specifically. She was very small at the time so we had to wait a considerable length of time before she was big enough to be spayed. She went to a different foster a few weeks ago to be socialized with other cats. We were expecting to bring her home sometime this week. With her being healthy and reserved for us we felt comfortable purchasing everything one might need for a new kitten and we excitedly set everything up for her. We then recieved an email 2 days ago informing us that she had been adopted out to her new foster as they get first pick. Normally I would have no issue with a foster having first pick, but we reserved her 2 months ago, before she even went to the new foster, and were assured she was ours. We had no forewarning of this possibility. We are heartbroken that she will not be part of our family.

Not only did I leave with a simply adorable, affectionate cat, but I was also equipped with toys and feeding bowls and a little tower for claw and scratch boards, and food, both solid and moist and I'm just amazed at how generous and kind and thoughtful these people are.

This place used to be awful with terrible conditions for cats. Since it’s been redone in the last couple years it looks awesome! The staff are friendly and genuine. They don’t make you jump through too many hoops like some other animal rescues. It’s easy to volunteer or visit the animals. I just wish they had more dogs. 2 at a time (which are usually just pit bulls) makes it hard to find a dog that’s right for you when you’re looking to adopt.

looking to adopt small adult dog

I was wondering if you are still taking garage sale items today, Thursday? And the time to drop off items?

Mary Lou Ste Marie | Sep 9, 2019

I dont think an animal shelter takes garage sale items... They how ever do need cleening supplys and per food for the animals there.

I just read from a very reliable source that there is one dog, constantly chained, with no attention given. They’ve been fined but continue with this neglect. The dog/dogs deserve so much love and attention.

Are you guys back up and running again. And how do I get vsnip application

Amber Cushing | Sep 9, 2018
wendy thibault | Sep 9, 2018

They are open again. But I'm not sure about the vsnip. You would have to call them.

My parents live in Underhill. They recently discovered kittens living behind the sugarhouse. If I can capture them I need somewhere to take them. Can you advise and or direct me where to go? Thank you, Donna Boiney (899-4336)

wendy thibault | Sep 9, 2018

You would need to call them or there is a place in Burlington also that might be closer. But for any you need to make an appointment with them.
