Thank you to our amazing officers. I can't say enough good things about them. They have proven to be kind and considerate each and every time with my fiance' who suffers with alcoholism. I'm so grateful for their efforts to help me locate her and get her the help she truly needs. I'm forever grateful and hold them all in the highest regard. On a personal level I offer you all my public apology.

Have only been living in Fort Myers for nine months on a permanent basis, but have lived in Fl for 30 years. I recently moved here from Charlotte county where the law enforcement was at best lackadaisical, and at worst, just third country revenue collection. Having experience as a LEO, albeit it three decades ago, and in locations far removed from Fl, just moving 35 miles has restored my faith in local law law enforcement, and the support people that enable them to do their jobs as well as they do. My last experiences with SSCO/PGPD resulted in numerous nolo prosequi paperwork, that did not refund the expenses I incurred while being "incarcerated" for no real reason. All of my experiences with the FMPD have been professional, with exemplary behavior, and none of the "I'm the cop, your not" behavior I was used to expecting in other locations. My seven contacts with the FMPD, two involving uniformed officers, (addendum below) three non emergency calls to report an incident, and two non emergency calls requesting information were handled as if I was their most important problem. My congratulations to the Fort Myers police department for their ability to operate the way they do do despite the current covid problems. The addendum: I initially started this just to compliment the support people, who have been the majority of my contacts. But I must add in addition that the two contacts I've had with uniformed officers were handled in a manner that was extremely professional, a minimum of BS, and a maximum of problem solving and resolution. Professionals that, had I still been in law enforcement, I would have felt both safe, and proud to work with. Believe it or not, most cops (sorry, I was called "fuzz" and "pig" when I started) want to solve your problem, not escalate to a "conflict" resolution decision. Try and cut these already hard working good people some slack.

My family called ft myers police on a relative that has been aggressive and threatening and violent at times. They arrived in force and blamed our family for everything and said we should never call 911 on family. This is complete insanity, the clowns they call cops in this faux fancy town can eat every flavored excrement in the world. They’ve made it a police state and don’t care about the citizens the community and any type of domestic dispute. Until one of us severely hurts them or they severely hurt us, they don’t care. They don’t even want people in their jail, they are provoking people to get hurt. Severe changes need to happen now.

They could be worse. I guess The female cops are just horrible. But thats the case in most police departments. Some female cops are awesome. Just not in Ft myers. Or Lee county for that matter. I guess its the old saying. The smaller the fish. The bigger the Stink !!!! Cape coral cops are fair & polite for the most part. Ft myers is hit & miss

Under what circumstances would police be authorized to tow or repossess a personal vehicle? My concern doesn't involve traffic violations/tickets. I am receiving notices from debt collectors & my only asset is a car. Can a debt collector take it?

Marguerite Lee | Sep 9, 2019
Kay R | Sep 9, 2019

Police do not tow the vehicle, the property owner does and the police document it. If you finance a vehicle the finance company can also have it towed without your knowledge.
