Glad to have found this rustic, quiet campground. Staff Ronnie and Melissa work hard to keep it up very well. Rest rooms and showers were good. They do a great job. Several things appealed to us: It's quiet, and most of the sites are well laid out and pretty private. The stream flowing through the whole campground is beautiful. The lake and swimming area is scenic and a good place to cool off. Fishing specifically for kids till June 15th to give them a chance at catching nice-sized trout. After that all ages can fish. Several good hiking trails. We enjoyed just taking walks, biking around the property, and just chilling around the campfire. There is a large, beautiful log picnic shelter built in the 1930's. It was easy to see why this has been a popular family destination for decades. We were glad to disconnect from cell service for a few days of rest and quiet, and some reading. There is very sporadic cell service in certain spots, according to one camper I spoke to. We had no reception, but we did not mind. We look forward to going back when we can.

Bring your own electricity, but the sites are maintained and there's rest rooms with running water. Not one of those campgrounds where you feel like you're visiting a trailer park. They keep it primatve and close to nature.

Overall a great campground. Huge sites, well spaced. Bathhouse very clean. Hosts very friendly. Only complaint is the ridiculously high speed bump entering campground and the leaky water hose at dump station. Best sites for a camping trailer are 6, 24, and 23 IMHO Expect no cell service.

Enjoyable campground with clean, hot showers, decent spacing between sites and a nice creek/lake with hiking trails. My only complaint is that there is no utility sink available so washing dishes requires you to get water and then disperse the dirty water into the woods. As many others have said, there is zero cell service but that's not such a bad thing to get away from.

I can fit a 16 person tent on one of their smallest spots. Two 5 persons shouldn't be an issue.
Yes there is rv camping. No water or electric on campsites. We have a dump station where you can dump and fill your campers. This is one of the best places I've been
Yes it is pet friendly you just have to clean up after it and you can't take them to the lake area.
Mostly family and group! There are a few sites that are a little more private due to being on a corner or farther from a bathroom. Also, there is a double site at the very end of the long camp road that is definitely for a bigger private group. That one is more secluded!
They will absolutely let cars park in the lower lot and it's a short walk the campsites on the main circle. I just camped there a couple weeks ago and talked with them about this exact topic. The spots by the bath house are for the bathhouse not extra parking. Just make sure every vehicle gets a parking pass.
checkout time is 11am
You can check in later. We prepaid online. If the guard shack is unoccupied, the camp host will come around and check you in. But gates close at 10PM
No boats or watercraft at all https://www.virginia.org/Listings/OutdoorsAndSports/CaveMountainLakeRecreationArea/
When you just show up without a reservation
Make sure you make reservations there is only 20 some spots here.
If you are camping they can fish, walk trails, ride bikes and swim. If you go to natural bridge...there is the bridge to explore, wax museum, zoo and gift shop.
No you have to walk or drive to the lake. Some of the sites are beside a creak that runs through the camp ground.
Yes you can make reservations online at recreation.gov. There is an extra $10 processing fee.
There is a well stocked exxon if I remember correctly that has a lot of food/snacks/water, though not quite a grocery store, about a 5-10min drive from the camp. Even closer is a Yogi Bear campground which usually has a camp store. BTW they also have a water park!
I'm not sure such a thing exists for this campground. If you've not been then they have excellent sites, nice private bathrooms w/ showers, chill lake w/ many picnic spots/grills/shelters, its very very clean, and sports a great couple mile trail
