Crowded and Overbooked... Review of RoundStone Camping Resort I specifically sought out this campground for its seclusion and rustic sites - especially during COVID. Management mentioned that each site is over an acre large and that we wouldn't see other people from our site. I am a Scoutmaster and back-country camper and appreciate the seclusion. Reviews on this site also seemed to point to a quiet experience. We (party of 8: 2 couples and 4 kids) made reservations and paid upfront several weeks and advance. There is no formal reservation system and you are supposed to text management when you are in route and they will assign you a site. Unfortunately they overbooked themselves. Communication that day with management was difficult and they apologized that they were overwhelmed with the number of people who showed up without reservations. They mentioned "wanting to make everyone happy" and not turn anyone away. The campground appeared stuffed with makeshift sites and many of the sites had large groups of 20 or more - many seemed to be a party crowd. Our "corner site surrounded by woods" turned out to be a small corner of another site that was already occupied by about 20 college aged kids. In our small corner, there was a small ring of stones for a firepit that was clearly never used so it was obvious that they made our "site" just for us. The young adults in our shared site were already set up in the prime areas with several tents, music and a lacrosse match. Our corner of the "site" was at the edge of the field area meant to park cars with no privacy and the woods surrounding us were thick with undergrowth so you couldn't even wander in to relieve yourself so we'd have to use the shared port -a-pot with the 20 college kids after walking through their portion of our shared site (of which they had 90% and we had 10%). Management tried to downplay their error by commented that the other people in our site were excited to meet us (definitely NOT what we were looking to do during a pandemic) and that we could use our cars as a 'privacy wall' and our site is still comparable in size to that found in most state parks (again, this was not the large secluded site they advertised and with no privacy or other amenities I'd much rather be at a state park). We ended up leaving and luckily after several phone calls were able to find another camping spot about 1 hour away. There were 2 positives: 1) they did promptly refund our money 2) IF the campground was not overcrowded and we got what was advertised it could have been a very nice experience. The campsites really were quite nice. I'm perplexed by our bad experience given so many good reviews. One thought is that so many more people are camping now due to COVID-19 and management just couldn't handle the demand. It's definitely a mom and pop type family operation and their reservation system was not very professional (done by text messaging and paypal).

Great place for tent camping. The owners are super responsive and nice and you can certainly book a last minute trip if needed. The campsites are very spacious and well secluded. Some of the campsites have a buggy to carry your belongings from the car and also have a picnic table and fit pit. There are nice spots to walk around…. a lake, stream, etc. Cabins are also available to rent.

Loved it. We needed a campsite last minute. At first they were fully booked so I booked somewhere else, but someone cancelled that same day and Casey reached back out to me to offer the site. I chose this over the other campground and I was so glad I did. We had tent site #3 and it was so nice. It was tucked back in the woods and there was a nice little path back to it with the creek running through. There was a lot of room and it was secluded. We didn’t hear or see another person from the neighboring sites all evening. The porta potty was close by and it was pretty clean. I was a little nervous about the bears and I knew it was a possibility but we didn’t see any. I definitely would go back!

Stayed here for one night with my fiancé and two year old and it was perfect. We booked at last minute so the only thing that was available was one of their HUGE sites. It was very open but still secluded, right on the tree line with easy access to the trails and crick. We seen several deer and I stayed up during the night to listen to the foxes that were close by. On our way to get fire wood we drove by their other tent sites which were more secluded and set back into the woods along the river. I read a previous review where other people had a hard time following directions to their site. We had absolutely no problems finding our site. The directions were written very clearly and easy to follow. After driving around to see what other sites would be available for next time It seems almost impossible to get lost.. Our only complaint was the state of the port-a-john closest to our site but there are others in the camp so not a huge deal. Overall it was a great experience and we are already planning our next trip for in the fall.

Hello Jacqueline, We have recently updated our hours and some website information. Winter season is highly dependent on the type of weather we have. This season we are hopeful to have staff on site and have a few sites open for everyone to enjoy our winter season! Any other questions please let us know, thanks!
