Informative plaques and poignant vistas make this a wonderful place to explore human and natural history combined. Even on a foggy day, the beach and surf are inviting and mezmerizing.

A bit blustery today, not crowded and beautiful views. Today's trip, spotted a few 🐳 whales very near the coast, hard to see but added a few very short videos of the "blow". Returned to check out another trail which had another terrific view of the ocean from a higher setting on a hill. Quite a few bunkers were there. Stronger rip tides had nice effects on the incoming waves. Some small flowers starting to bloom. Added a few more pics, including a peek into one of the bunker doors, small opening (definitely some human activity 👀) Very nice trail, beautiful variety of colors with ocean as the backdrop, with free and plenty of parking. Can exit at different places to access the beach 🏖 not crowded at the beach on this visit.

This is a really beautiful park. Conveniently located near the highway, the park is part of a former military installation that happened to be in the sand dunes that line the coast. The park is not staffed and all it really offers outside of the natural landscapes is a road, a parking lot, and some nice trails that you could walk or bike on. In addition to that you have beach acces that lets you walk straight up to the Monterey Bay in between the dunes. Walking in the dunes is not permitted and you would see why as the dunes are mostly covered in succulents and wildflowers. I assume any foot traffic would cause erosion and promote more lose sand flying in the wind. The ocean is incredibly ferocious around these parts so probably only people surfboards might dare to jump in. One of the most rewarding things is walking past the two to three story dunes to reveal a beach with only s handful of people.

Good stop on the way to Monterey or you are driving further south.. good place for picnic or rest stop.. the beach is 10-15 walk from the parking… loved the beautiful colors on the dunes.. on the way you can see the old barracks

No and plus they close the gates at Sun down. Try camping at Big Sur
Big Sur definitely one of my favorite places to camp
We went on Sunday so yes open on weekends. Parking and porta potties available and it was free. Bike trail was paved from what we saw but not sure how far they go. We hiked down to the shore and enjoyed the beach. Hope this helps.
The parking and entrance are free but the gates close after sun down.
In general Jul-Sep are the best months to visit, based on clear skys, minimal rain and muggyness and warmer temperatures. The tradeoff is more visitors and less parking. There are a lot of microclimates in the area, so fog, wind and clouds come and go. Personally, I like transitions between sun, clouds and some fog for pics, need to be locally based for a period of time to catch these conditions. High tides and seasonal vegetation color contrasts are also factors for pics. Bring a backup jacket, even in the warmer months. Save time for a whale watching tour while visiting.
No overnight parking allowed
No you can't. There is a small parking lot. To get to the beach there is a trail that takes you down. No vehicles allowed or would even be able to reach car.
I don't see why not I'm not sure exactly on the specific rules and regs. However it seems to be customary to check in with the other people that are flying and see if everybody is amiable. practice your skills away from everybody so that when other people are flying in proximity you won't accidentally twitch and run into them.
Park for free. Food close by
On pavement, but not on the beach. Got to have a leash, and got to pick up after them too.
