Visited while the lake was drained for repairs December 14th. Working on a challenge Geocache and needed a picture of myself in the park. I hope to come back in the summer to home around some.

A small house museum (Patterson House) of the battle of carnifex ferry. Has a hiking trail leaking to 3 overlooks (Gauley River and pillow rock). There is not much water in the river due to the dam in the upstream. Can't compare to the New River Gorge in the area but ok view.

Awesome! Beautiful park! See below! Pics don't do justice but gives you an idea of what's at the park. There are trails you can walk, I did, awesome! Did I say it's awesome?

We had a brief walk to an old-growth hemlock forest along the way; we were serenaded by hooded warblers, cerulean warblers, scarlet tanagers, red shoulder hawk, and a red wing black bird, and more. The hemlocks were magnificent. We had a forest floor covered with herbs and ferns. We can't wait to go back with Park Superintendent Sean.

Yes it is. The grounds are beautifully maintained and they don't mind seeing your pets. They must be kept on a leash.
Yes, I would imagine there would be several picnics going on for Memorial Day.
There is a office at the park. I'd say you call the office line and they can direct you in what you need to do.
