Cute small coffee shop. I love the decor and atmosphere of Academic coffee. The menu is diverse yet simple, they have their own signature coffees/lattes such as the Pan latte which I would describe as tasting like the milk you have left over after eating cereal/cheerios. It is a unique flavor and I would def recommend trying it at least once! I wasn't too crazy about the seating, there was only outdoor seating with minimal shade and there was no indoor seating. The staff was super friendly and explained each coffee and their taste very thoroughly. Overall, I would def visit again if I am in the area.

Great tasting coffee, seems to be of higher quality than other coffee shops. I really liked their pastries as well. Parking can be a little tight though.

I used to love the cold brew, drip, and Americanos at this place. Service is always great. The three stars is partly because they are still trapped in the Corona mindset- no indoor seating, no bathroom, plexiglass all over, warning signs on the door. The rest of the reason is that the coffee quality isn't quite what it was. It's still good - and it's a good place to go on this neighborhood - but it lost its edge and hasn't progressed. They had single origin espresso listed on the menu but didn't have any to offer. Also, the pastries ran out by 10:30 and they only had one savory option, even if in stock. The vegan muffin was amazing though. I like to support all coffee shops and don't like giving a negative review, so this is hopefully feedback for the shop to get focused on coffee quality as we all move on.

The coffee was rich and creamy. I loved it. Some of their coffee has spicy sauces in them. So please ask the cashier while ordering. I was about to order one and the cashier asked a question to confirm if I know that particular one had a spicy sauce in it. They do not have any indoor seating. There was outdoor seating but it was very busy. That's understandable given how good their coffee is. They also have some pastries if you are lucky.

Sundays and holidays are free street parking in downtown San Jose. Try the resudential areas for non-metered street parking
Similar in character. Academic has a more interesting set of flavors in their baked goods, with a general 'Asian' leaning (matcha/sesame). That said, they don't have a toast menu or alcohol service. I think chromatic has the edge in terms of their interior artwork and events. Quality of latte-type beverages is similar. I think of academic, chromatic, b2, and big mug as all in the same general category of 'good.'
