Tim just completed the home inspections for the home we are selling and the one we are purchasing. He was very thorough and did a wonderful job explaining the issues found and ensuring that our questions were answered. He walked us around and showed us exactly what was in need of repair, and provided his information should we have any further question. We receive a very nice binder that clearly outlined every area inspected with easy to read and understand results! So impressed!

Great quality inspection. Jessie was very professional. With me Being a first time buyer, He explained everything to me in an easy to understand manner. And provided a detailed binder with his findings for me to keep. Items were color coded with safety concerns in red. He answered all the questions that me and my buying agent had. Thanks Jessie! Would highly recommend Home Standards!

Forrest was my home inspector for that morning. He was punctual and professional and all around nice guy. The inspection was thorough and the presentation was concise. He explained his findings and in some cases what the ideal solution was. He was able to answer all my questions and when he finished I felt confident in the service and findings. If all their inspectors are as professional as Forrest, I highly recommend Home Standards Inspection Services.

Look at reviews. How long has the home inspector or home inspection company been in business? Are they affiliated with any organizations such as ASHI or InterNACHI? Don't go with the cheapest home inspector you can find - you will get what you pay for.

Is now a good time to buy a house?

Is it a good time to buy a house? With a challenging market it might have you wondering. First of all best advice comes from your real estate agent. Let me just share a few thoughts as a multiple homeowner and person involved with real estate my whole life. Homeownership has been important and fulfilling for me and my family. I have always encouraged my children and others to buy a home when ready. First two homes I bought - one overpriced the other one at a crazy interest from there we sold and purchased three more homes. Now living in a home my wife and i really enjoy. Point is, each home purchase allowed us to buy the next home to meet our family's needs. For most of us home ownership is the foundation of our financial stability. The point of my personal story is even buying in what seemed like bad times was just the start of our family's home ownership journey. I hope you find your home you are looking for. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmyAP6lHGtE

What is radon?

Joe Common | May 9, 2022
Home Standards Inspection Services | May 9, 2022

Radon is an odorless gas that occurs from the natural breakdown of uranium in soil, rock and water. The release of this radioactive gas enters the air you breathe, causing a potential health risk. It is the 2nd leading cause of lung cancer. Radon levels are higher in the Midwest including Omaha and Lincoln areas. Approximately 50% of homes we test come in over 4.0 picocuries which is the action level set by the EPA.

Should I test my house for Radon?

Joe Common | May 9, 2022
Home Standards Inspection Services | May 9, 2022

The area around the Omaha and Lincoln metros is in a higher than average risk area for high radon levels. Testing is the only way to find out about your home’s radon level. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Surgeon General and The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services recommend testing of all homes. If you find that the home has high radon levels, there are simple methods to mitigate the problem. Even very high levels can be reduced to acceptable levels. https://homestandardsinspections.com/inspections/radon-mold/
