Stoic Advice
5 Big Ideas for the Big 5 Walnut Creek location: 1. Do what you say you will do. If Google Maps and other trusted sources indicate that you're open at 9am, be open at 9am. A note on the door saying 10am is too late. 2. Begin with the end in mind. If the business were going to fold, how would you want to be remembered? Surely not as a business that failed because they miscommunicated their open hours to customers. 3. Know the game you're playing and how to play it. You're a Sporting Goods store...this should come naturally. If you want to keep people coming to brick & mortar retail stores, give customers an in-person experience that surpasses the online experience. Allowing customers to turn around, shaking their heads before they even step foot in the store could turn out to be your very last chance to capture that audience and there's a good chance they'll share this frustrating experience with others...amplifying the "damage". 4. Close the gap. There's a big gap between where you are now and where you need to be to survive in Downtown Walnut Creek. Get back to basics. Figure out what your fundamentals are and master them no matter how mundane they seem. Like, being open during the advertised times. 5. Understand your customer and give them a reason to trust you. People are passionate about their hobbies. They come to your store to invest in those hobbies. They may come to you for convenience, price, selection, etc. and go to a specialty store for advice. Regardless of which side of the spectrum you dabble in, trust is paramount. If you were going on a first date and had agreed to meet at 6pm but your date didn't show up until 7pm, would you give them a 2nd chance? Be open when you say you're open. Be trustworthy.

Very small but you can get what you need in most departments. Firearm availability is almost none at this time and you need to buy one in order to get the firearm safety certificate. There are a lot of options for airsoft and air guns though. Other than that not too bad of a location.

They did a good job trying to pack in as much stuff as they can in a relatively small space. Of course there are less choices than other bigger "big 5" but they make up for it with a great staff attitude. Their customer service is excellent, they were as helpful as they come. I called and they put what I needed on hold. When I got there it was put aside for me even if they were the last ones on the shelf. Their parking lot is in the back.
