Good to bring the kids who are not that great at swimming. Also boats can moore out there... And each part of the basin offers something different per she group. Fire pits first come first serve...life guard is in duty

I camped there for weeks. It's great to wake up at the beach.

Lots of open space for a get together, BBQ, picnic or parties on the grass or sand. Launch a kayak from the beach side or fish easily off the rocks. I have even seen snorkelers spearfishing around the rocks. Has a few fire pits, but better get there early if you want one. Road to the point is mostly sand, it gets dusty and trucks constantly spin their wheels throwing sand and dust everywhere. Nice views of the sunset over the bay if you can deal with noise from the transients. Lots of RVs, trucks and generators. Policing more would help keep the trouble makers out.

Is there overnight camping

Sort of. We've camped before. If you bring a motor home you can stay, as long as you put a pole out, for 72 hours. The parking lot on the other side is 72 hour parking as well. We've camped with tents more than a couple of times. On the east side hidden by the hill and on the west side. We figured the ticket would be cheaper than the cost to go to campland. But we never got the ticket. You only live once and it's a great experience. Enjoy!
