Beautiful experience. We drive up to visit family.. great access to beach and campers we’re having fun and the park was clean.. only downside, the check is was horrific.. the guy checking us in was clueless to say the least.. have someone who actually knows a little bit about the process.. he could find out family, we had to finally look up a text to get the site, I’m assuming he can spell? We had to give him our last name (also the family name of the reservation) and he couldn’t find the site.. he said we’d have to park in the visitor area because they already has 2 vehicles.. he gave a a 10min pass to go to the site.. seriously?? 10 minutes!! What were they thinking? No one can say a hello let alone drop things in 10mind.. good grief.. then we get to the site and there is nit 2 cars?? Family said the other guests visited the day before! This place was a joke in the communication and administration department.. We then saw a woman yelling at another gust for exceeding the 10 mins.. shame on her..

it is essentially a parking lot to put your tent or park your vehicle. You are surrounded by beauty! access to the ocean in front of you and behind the campground is a path that goes past surfers Beach. dogs are welcome in the campground and on the path as long as they are leashed. if you are not camping or even if you are, they are a picnic tables and stationary grills over on the state park side. campsite has two structures for bathrooms and showers, both are well maintained and clean. any questions just ask the ranger.

Great campground, very clean and quiet, easy Beach access, we were lucky enough to get a camp site, only two sites left, I was told by a fellow RV'er that it rare that there's any openings they usually books months ahead. There are pay showers and bathrooms.

Drive-in tent sites have an impregnable view of the ocean. It can get quite windy and cold. Winds tend to ease a bit in the late afternoon. Depending on your tent, setting-up at midday, in windy conditions, might pretty challenging. Bathrooms and showers are clean. Showers require quarters and a minimum of 50 cents for 2 minutes.

Chloe, you can check availability through www.reservecalifornia.com however, you wont be able to rent through the site(48 hrs prior is cutoff) you can see if the space is occupied. Then its first come, first served. They also have space for hike in and camp.
Yes, state park is dog friendly in the campground. No pets are allowed in the beach and trails.
The weather will probably be cool and windy but it's hard to predict and they have BBQ grills by the beach with picnic benches
I believe 40, but most spots can handle over that. What they don't know won't hurt them.
Yes you can the beach is right there.10 bucks gets you in
Campsites #36, #37, and #38 are tent only and right on the edge of the beach. Literally from the campsite, walk down the ice plants onto the beach. The sites have an unobstructed view of the beach. My default one is #37. Photo from #37: https://goo.gl/maps/o3EnnTg1ZYw $35 plus $7.99 non-refundable fee.
Yes they do. Gets chilly and windy some weeks out of the year so bring a space heater just in case. We stayed on 9-15-18 weekend and it was awesome. Sunday when we woke up our tent was super covered in dew. The table looked like it had rained. But the sun came out and dired it all up.
Electrical hook up only. Water as mentioned at the dump station or spouts located around the camp ground
Some spots have electricity, 30 or 50 amps. Sometimes there are cancellations, not something to depend on.
You have yo reserve through the state parks system and it is not an easy process. I think it is called CalReserve or something like that...google it :-)
Yes, it does get very windy at times during the afternoon.
You can use the safety fire pit built-in at the site.
Yes, book on reservecalifornia.com.
Yes, you can sleep in your car, in a reserved camp site. Yes , there is a fee for camp sites.
Not sure if you can, but they do have tent sites. Here is the number to call, listed on Google maps. 800-444-7275
Not sure. We don't live locally in that area. Only go to visit & volunteer w/CA STATE PARK CHAMPION EVENTS when they take place.
I'm not sure. I do know that they have horse tours that go along this beach but having them on sight I have not seen. Best to call ahead first.
Generally speaking, it is better to reserve a campsite.
Weather in HMB is always variable. Could be sunny and hot, could be foggy and cool. Plan accordingly and bring layers.
I believe you might need to make reservations. There is a pathway between beaches for your hike.
Try to Reserve on line at reservecaliforna.con
Update: I just went to the website and it says they're open with restrictions. Pinecrest campgrounds opened on Friday, so maybe HMB CG did too. https://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=531 Maybe it's worth trying ? ---------------------------------------------------- Not yet. We went Wed and Thursday and they were still closed.
$35 per night + $7.99 reservation fee. includes parking for 1 vehicle
The day use area is open w/o reservations.
Not only are there specific spots for tents, but you can also setup tents at the areas for RVs.
No Corals that I've seen in the camping area or Beyond. The horse trail is right next to the campground. You probably have to go down about three-quarters of a mile before you can bring the horses on the beach
They will refund your money if they close the park because of weather. Other than that you're SOL. Happened to Me 2 years ago at New Brighton State Beach. They also notified me by phone that the park was being closed
I dunno about regular car or camper sites, but if you are walking or biking in, I think the hiker biker sites were under $10/person last summer.
Yes. There is free WiFi however not very reliable.
If you have a reserved site at the campground then yes. There are designated fire pits with grill racks.
You must contact them But i bet there is because everyone will Be going home after Holiday enjoy great place one of my favorites.
Dining walking dis trance HMB state beach campground
Great place to tent camp but limited space for tents make a reservation i recommend
Electric, and showers nearby. Possibly full hookups but I didn't use one
Check on the website
65 for the spots on the ocean, 50 for the ones with electrical, 35 for those without
Usually you need to book campsites six months out through Reserve California. You can often get a space, though, if you keep checking for cancellations. You need to book it through their web site.
