Experience. I was the 20th inspector licensed by the State of New Jersey. There are now well over a thousand inspectors licensed. The higher the license number the newer the inspector. Like it or not inspectors, like other professions learn from their mistakes. Choosing an inspector with a low license number stacks the experience deck in your favor.

Sometimes I find them looking at the photos in the listing online, other times as soon as I pull up to the home, however, to get the full answer I have to actually spend a few hours inspecting the entire home.

As with any profession, it is incredibly important for home inspectors to be in the know when it comes to the latest home inspection requirements. Times change and to ensure you receive the best service, your inspector should be willing to learn about those changes. Michael Del Greco is not only an educator, but he also participates in continuing education programs by exceeding more than 20 education hours per year. This includes staying current with licensure requirements for home inspections as well as maintaining his certification as a Radon Measurement Technician and Commercial Pesticide Applicator. I have been a full-time home inspector since 1993. I taught the NJ Home Inspector Licensing program at Morris County School of Technolgy. Teaching home inspectors really taught me how to teach potential home buyers about their new home.
