I was in town visiting and had a major health emergency, so I went to this hospital because it was the closest. I was completely blown away by the quality of service I had over the few days I spent here. Every nurse, technician, doctor, surgeon and even admin staff I saw went out of their way to make sure I was comfortable and spent the time to explain my options thoroughly and answer questions. The facilities were also top notch and very comfortable. I feel very lucky to have gone here on a whim and experienced such good care. Would give many more stars if I could.

When a handful of the worst nurses praise an inept Doctor working the ER floor that says a lot about the care here at St. Charles. From inappropriate jokes while your two month old child is writhing in pain to attempting to locate a minuscule hair follicle bound on a tiny toe without magnification—the circus is alive here in Bend. We’ve had incredible experiences in the pediatric ward but this is by far the worst ER I’ve ever visited. It’s clear their abhorrent staff were far from the top of their class in med school. Staff members raved about Dr. Kelly Smith but when you research her it’s no surprise that we received less than satisfactory care. There’s no question that due diligence is not an operative quality of hers. She fails to do the proper checks—screening trauma or properly surveying wounds. It’s clear that St. Charle’s vaccine mandate has left this establishment without a considerable number of affluent, hardworking MDs. Prior to this incident our family suffered a horrible bout of RSV. Our daughter was only 11 days old when we brought her to St. Charles for obvious signs of respiratory distress. The Doctor on staff sent us home despite the fact that our daughter was not going to fight the illness without help. We were back a day later and thankfully someone was smart enough to call a pediatrician to take a look. We were admittedl immediately. I’m appreciative of the pediatrician who knew better but I can’t help but feel like the ER docs here are running around like chickens with their heads cut off. The standard of care in the ER is deplorable.

Bad business practices. Beware! I went in for lab work, and am self-pay. I paid what they asked, and asked if I owed them any more money they said no. 3 years later I find they have about $120 on my credit report in collections dinging my credit. I called, they can't take my money, the credit agency they turned me over to will not answer my calls or return my voice mails. They do not care, and can not help. $120. Ridiculous! If I knew I owed it I would pay in an instant. No phone call, no emails, no paper bills, didn't tell me I owed anything else at the desk, messing up my credit, and will not take payment now that I found out about it. Wow! look, anyone over there want to help? I'll pay you an extra $200 just to resolve this ridiculous issue? Maybe they are underpaying you and that is why no employee cares to fix this.

An emergency room visit, ended up with 3 bills, one from some of the doctors, under then name "Central Oregon Emergency Physicians". This mysterious entity has no website, or contact number, but send billing from another mysterious and completely nameless organization. While my payment to the doctor was made promptly, the mysterious billing organization didn't credit my payment. A few months later, I get a notice from a collection agency. When I tried to contact Central Oregon Emergency Physicians, I was pointed to the nameless billing organization in Chicago. I called several times, and put my number in the queue for a call back. I never got one. Each time I called back the wait time got longer and longer. I called this morning and finally got through. The mysterious billing company for the mysterious COEP, game me an address to send a copy of the payment information. Even that address doesn't show up on google, so the name of this mysterious billing company remains completely private. The phone number that they use doesn't show up in searches for COEP, but does for a number of other hospitals in the US. My biggest gripe is that I paid my bill, but now have to go through the labyrinth of BS to justify why my bill shouldn't be sent to collections. It should be easier for me to present my case locally, and I put that on St Charles. The physicians should know that the organization that they use for bill collection is VERY difficult to get ahold of without a lot of waiting. While the doctors bill me a very high price for a very short amount of their time, they don't consider my time worth anything, or they would have another method of dealing with billing.

Hi Laurie - we're glad you asked! There are a lot of great florists in Bend - most of which deliver to the hospital with no problem. We do, however, have an online gift store on our website where you can pick out flowers and have them delivered to your loved one's room. https://st-charles-bend-gift-store.myshopify.com/collections/flowers - it's important to note that orders are processed and deliveries are made Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Hi Liz - Cascades East Transit is a local bus that can pick you up in La Pine and drop you off at St. Charles Bend. The price is a little over $6 one-way - you can get more info on their website: https://cascadeseasttransit.com/routes-schedules/all-cities/La%20Pine/. They also offer Dial-A-Ride services and you can find out more by calling 541-385-8680. Uber is another option, but it's quite a bit more costly. One way is around $65. You can enter your location and get an estimate here: https://www.uber.com/us/en/price-estimate/. Hope this helps!

Hi Heather - yes. St. Charles is experiencing an intermittent network outage affecting phones and internet service at all hospitals and clinics. St. Charles Memorial Hospital was dedicated on May 12, 1951. It was built next to the old brick St. Charles Hospital on Hospital Hill near Franklin Avenue in downtown Bend. The hospital remained in that building until 1975. That year, they opened a new facility on Neff Road which is where St. Charles is located today. You can read all about the history of St. Charles at stcharles100.com.
I don't know. You will have to ask the Billing Department.

Hi there - unfortunately, no, we don't offer hyperbaric therapy. There are a few places in Bend who offer it, including Bend Memorial Clinic. Just do a Google search to see them all. Thank you for reaching out!
Nurses should... ?
It is on the west side of the hospital next to the heart center facing "The Center" if you need to go there it is the best place to go. I wish each place could operate the way they do.
As you come into the parking lot there are signs that let you know. 😊
