READ THIS: I would give zero if I could. If you are sitting in the hospital looking up local facilities please keep looking. Do not even try to justify sending them to The Grand or Barnwell, no matter how close and convenient. My mother, 62, who was admitted for REHAB, died less than 60 days from being admitted. There were more blunders than I could count and her death due to sepsis was 100% preventable. You walk in this facility and immediately you are overcome from the smell of urine. For my mother, there was no record of her being bathed for 22 days. I asked for medical intervention and the testing was done on the wrong patient after begging for days. She had a fever, was delusional and multiple requests for care were ignored. Again, she was 62, admitted for rehab to help with walking. Some staff seem to care but they are so restricted and have no say. This is a business and there is money to be made. All lawsuits filed are public in New York, please look up some of the cases filed against The Grand. It is sickening. Not all nursing facilities are this horrible. Please do your research, Shaker Place in Albany is amazing. And don’t even bother replying with your canned reply. You can’t bring my mother back, she died at age 62 as a result of your negligence. She will never see her grand babies grow up, death from sepsis took that away. I look forward to the day my family can see you in court. Those involved make me sick.

Be careful! If your loved one dies while in care here, they will not return any of their belongings. It is "disposed" of. I contacted the facility on the date of death on behalf of my father and myself. Over and over, we got the run around. After trying multiple times trying to set up way pick up her belongings, we were simply ignored and given the run around. I had a list of contacts that were quite long with no ability to have someone follow up! Finally, I sent certified letter to Director. Director advised that ALL of her belongings had already been "Disposed" of. We never were able to retrieve ANY of her personal items, her photos ore even so much as her purse was "Disposed" of. Every last item that she had for her comfort at the nursing home was "Disposed" of without a CARE! Not so much as a call from ANYONE! Now that is cold! My RESPONSE to your response :Thank you for your reply, but they are WELL aware! I have spoken directly to your director few times. There is NO excuse for not responding to family's constant requests or disposing of property without bothering to contact family!!! Staff contacted me regularly while she was alive. Director had no excuse. I guess this is just policy.

The camaraderie of people that work here are very nice. I'll will miss his place but, excited to get home. Therapy was fantastic! They helped me a lot during my stay. The pork roast and mashed potatoes was delicious. Sprucing up and upgrades to the building, is needed. Other then that they lay out is great.

If you love your family don’t bring them here. As someone who worked at the grand I had the chance to see how terrible it was. Your loved ones will be mistreated. There are not enough CNAs on most shifts to cover all of the patients. This means your loved one go longer without eating, being cleaned, and toileting. Unfortunately, due to understaffing the CNA’s seem to have become so overworked that some of them no longer seem to care about their job and your loved ones are suffering for it. The kitchen staff is the same way. Too much work and not enough people to do it. This place is a disgrace. It’s heartbreaking. Protect your loved ones.
