Life of Jakers
Don’t expect anyone to have an answer or to even answer the phone. I would say that this is hands-down the most unprofessional and disgustingly ran county office that I’ve ever had to deal with in my entire life. Every time I called in to ask a question I was hung up on transferred to a voicemail or told I don’t know…. Unbelievable

My wife and I recently moved to Florida and had to get our licenses and tags switched. We went to the Sumter County office. Everyone here was super nice and helpful. Sometimes you do not look forward to tasks like getting car tags and licenses. But, it would be my advice to anyone needing to do these things is not to dread going here. You experience will be pleasant and the time will be efficient.

I have lived in Minnesota, Utah and Florida and I have never experienced the service like I have here. Thank you so much for making this process better. Great customer service!

I have applied for a DL, titled and registered three vehicles and surrendered two plates at this facility and on all 5 visits I found the personnel to be outstanding. The receptionists are pleasant, prompt and knowledgeable, and the inside staff very efficient. I don't cringe at the thought of a visit to the DMV anymore!

Hi..finish.. no...but there will be a certificate that you will have to bring to Sumter county court to show you completed the online course..
Do not believe so
That will depend on which office you plan to visit. The Wildwood and Bushnell offices are walk-in facilities. However, the Annex, located on the corner of Morse and 466, is appointment only.
Pat Reynolds, Thank you for your question. Usually the first time that you register a vehicle it is around $400.00-$450.00 depending on the empty weight of the vehicle and when the first owners birthday is. If you are just renewing a license plate it is usually around $46.10 unless you have a large truck of a specialty license plate. These fees do not include any sales tax and are just a rough estimate. Thank you
Hello, there is no impact fee for out of state titles. There is an initial registration fee for all first time plates, regardless of where the title is from. The initial registration fee is $225
You will need to turn in the plates in the county in which you reside.
Reynaldo Santiago, It is unnecessary to change the color of your vehicle on the title, however it required to change the color on the registration card. The fee for the duplicate registration is $3.00 which you can do in our drive thru. If you decide to change the color on the title the fee is $78.25 for a replacement title. Please let us know if you have anymore questions. Thank you.
I just got paperwork for permanent disability handicapped license plate..what for info now?

Ron Hamilton, Thank you for your question. In order to sell a vehicle in the State of Florida you will need the vehicle title signed over to the buyer and a bill of sale form. The link for the bill of sale form is below: https://www.flhsmv.gov/pdf/forms/82050.pdf Please make sure to surrender the license plate before you cancel the vehicle insurance. There are instructions on the vehicle registration card regarding that information. You can also include a copy of the bill of sale form and we will mark the vehicle sold in the computer. Thank you again and let us know if you have any more questions.
Good Afternoon. In order to renew your tag you will need either the old registration, reminder notice, or your driver's license. We have three office locations for Sumter County residents to utilize or you can also visit the state of Florida's website to renew online at : https://services.flhsmv.gov/VirtualOffice/ You will also need a form of payment, keep in mind that if you use a credit/debit card for payment you will have a processing fee from the credit/debit machine vendor. Thank you for your question.

The federal REAL ID Act of 2005 sets new standards for the issuance of driver licenses and ID cards. The REAL ID Act became effective nationwide on May 11, 2008. Florida began issuing REAL ID compliant credentials after January 1, 2010. The new credentials have a star in the upper right corner of the card Florida is a REAL ID compliant state and all Florida licenses should be accepted nationwide. The Department of Homeland Security announced on December 20, 2013, that enforcement of REAL ID credentials will begin in a measured, fair and responsible way. Floridians first saw enforcement at nuclear power plants and restricted areas of certain federal facilities. Enforcement at airports across the country will begin October 1, 2020. The chart below summarizes the four phases of enforcement. https://www.flhsmv.gov/driver-licenses-id-cards/real-id/

Florida is a Real ID Compliant state, which means you need multiple documents in order to convert your Virginia Driver's license to Florida's. The state has a helpful link : https://www.flhsmv.gov/driver-licenses-id-cards/what-to-bring/ The documents can vary depending on citizenship, but a US citizen should have either a valid USA passport or a certified copy of their Birth Certificate from Vital Statistics and any name change documents including all Marriage licenses. You will also need your proof of social security number (social security card, W-2, 1099, etc.), 2 proofs of your Florida physical street address (such as bills, closing papers, lease, etc. ) and your drivers license.
