Edit(9/5): Did my first 5 Mile trail run and it was definitely challenging with the heat. 🥵🥵🥵 Started at 8 am, should have started at 6. 😑 Overall, just the right elevation you need to start off your trail running journey. Best to enjoy during sunrise or sunset. It can get trafficky anytime post 9:00 AM. The trail has lovely views, goes downhill first and then uphill with an elevation gain of 1,100 Ft. Great trail to start off with for trail running.

The only hiking trail that our family and friends want to go back again. Just a bit of challenging to drive up and they didn’t have much parking. Other than that is all perfect!

This was my second time visiting this trail. Boy! It was so different from my last visit. The hills were fully blanketed by grass and wildflowers. Thoroughly enjoyed it. This trail is much easier than the trails on the other side of Sierra Rd. Go while you can. The grass will turn yellow in the summer.

Great views and a challenging trail. If you go up the western side, it's a bit steeper but half a mile shorter. There's not much shade either way. Nice wildflowers including Golden Poppies, Bi-Color Lupine and Itherial Spears. Wind is almost always blowing. There's no water so be sure you are well hydrated and/or bring water. Keep in mind that it's a long downhill. Downhills can cause a lot of knee pain if you are not in shape for it. There's a bench at the top to take in the views. This is one of my favorite runs or hikes.

No, but the parking lot has limited spots. So on a pleasant day, it can get full and you don't have any street parking. So you may have to wait in your car until you get a spot
Yes, it's safe. The cows graze the hills, so just keep a safe distance from them.
Nope. No bathrooms except at the base of the park.
Alum Rock Park id actually one of the only city parks that prohibits dogs.
There is parking at the entrance of the park. Then you have to hike to a few miles to the tread head.
Typically parks open at sunrise. On weekends I am there at 7am and some people are already there.
There are a few benches, no picnic table. The trail has limited shed, not ideal for picnic. Try Alum Rock park.
