Been coming here for over a year, all I can say is you get what you pay for. Nothing top notch, a lot of the equipment is worn out. The machines will sometimes lock up as well as make loud squeaky noises. The staff is always at the front desk usually playing on there phones but I will say they are friendly when you come with a question or concerns. I have never seen the staff come around and wipe down equipment. The occasional trash pick up from the bins. When weights are all over the place from others not putting them back I have never seen the staff come clean it up. It just get left the way it is which is chaotic sometimes with stuff just everywhere. The showers are very dinghy it looks like mildew or mold in there. The locker room is outdated. They recently put some new weight machines in there but they are basic, nothing like you would see at a Balance gym. I wanted something affordable and this was the option due to it not always being packed like Planet Fitness. I also wish they offered crossfit. They also look like they have outdoor space maybe Spunk should look into outdoor activities and equipment. If you are looking for something affordable, not packed, and basic this is a good gym for that. I would also add my personal opinion this gym is not run very well, I find that in Essex a lot of establishments are run poorly for some reason.

I stopped attending the gym and then canceled my debit card. A few months later, I am getting a call from Debt collectors telling me I have hundreds of dollars in unpaid bills from “Spunk Fitness”. If I’m not going and don’t have an active account, then why are they charging me for a gym membership??? This place is a scam.Hi Steven, we are sorry to hear that you feel we run a scam type of operation. We have that you joined Spunk Fitness on 01-25-21, and selected our $19.99/mo Membership Program. Unfortunately, you may have stopped coming into the Club, but you did not cancel your Membership with us. It appears that you simply cancelled your CC, and walked away. Our cancellation process is very straightforward: All Members choosing to cancel their Membership, must come into the Club in person and sign their cancellation form. We then print out a copy for the Member's records, as well as, retain the digital signed copy for our records. Should a Member have moved out of state, then they can send a certified letter to the Club, of which, we must sign for, and then we process their cancellation. You did not come into the Club and sign your cancellation form, nor did you send a certified letter requesting a Membership cancellation. These are the terms of your agreement that you signed - dated on 01-25-21, and this information is also posted at our front desk for Members to review. Therefore, Spunk Fitness cannot be responsible for you not cancelling your Membership, and choosing to walk away from your obligation to a Membership you elected to take out.
