I opened up a claim on 8/3/17 regarding a water damage that occurred in my shower in my main bathroom. This incident occurred in a span of 8 hours time while I was at work, leading my bathroom to flood and obtain a musty/moldy odor. The level of urgency that Statefarm handled my claim was at a negative to start from the ghetgo. 5 days later, after repeated phone calls to the insurance company, the adjuster came out to my residence, spent about 10 minutes inside the shower, without opening up the wall and digging to see the source of the problem, he denied my claim and called it home owner's negligence. I have never in my 16 years of having both home and car insurance been called negligent nor opened up any claims in the past. This water damage we still do not know if it's caused by a plumbing accident behind the wall or what is going on. This claim got denied simply by the expertise (or lack thereof) of the adjuster. They claim that this has been an ongoing leak behind the wall. Now how is the homeowner supposed to see/hear/know of a leak going on behind the wall until the accident floods over and you realize that it is a bigger issue. Walt Rouleou from Statefarm called me and was as helpful as an ant. Not only did he lack empathy and sound judgement, he simply said my case is one out of a million and that no policy will cover a leak behind the wall in the shower. I challenged him to get a plumber to my residence to determine root cause of claim prior to denial, but he said it's home owner's responsibility to follow up after claim is denied. I asked for an independent appraisal to which I thought I was entitled and an appeal process to which Walt denied me both.
